Fuel Line Issues...please help!!!

Fuel Line Issues...please help!!!
Hello everyone, this is my first post!
Well I have a 1997 F150 5.4 Liter V8, I had some guys working on it today. The fuel filter to be precise, I do not believe the man had the correct tools to do the job, I saw him twisting and pulling at the filter and it didn't seem right, but I continued to watch. Then he pulled out a pocket knife and cut it and said it was rotted, and sent me to purchase a new fuel line (he cut it before fuel filter) went to AutoZone and they seem confused and said the little piece I had with me was not from a fuel line because it was too small. Well the sold me a fine line for my make and model but when I returned to the guys doing my truck they told me it was the wrong part...
! So Ii returned it got my money back. The guy doing my truck said the fuel line I need has a cloth like material covering the line. Do that sound right? Could someone please tell me what I need to fix this problem? Please and Thank you

First thing you need ... a " mechanic " that knows what they are doing ..... Your fuel line can be repaired . You need someone to look at the damage and get the proper parts . Your guys should know what to order , If they know what they are doing ..... Ford used some braid covered lines . You can repair with hose that does not have that .
