I finally got my spare tire carrier on my truck. My truck came out of the body shop in August 1999. Procrastinate much? Also, I finally got my rear bumper painted. It was an NOS part I got at Carlisle in 1999 that my body man never had the time (or motivation) to paint as he finished up my truck, so the bumper simply had the factory black primer paint on it. Last summer I bought new repro bumper brackets at Carlisle rather cheap. My old bumper brackets were some I got off 2 trucks in junk yards and they showed it. It really dresses up my rear end!
Look in my gallery to see the spare tire hanger with out the bumper on and 2 views of the spare tire hanger with the freshly painted bumper. Tell me what you like: With or with out the bumper?
That's a gorgeous truck! And a wonderful story about it.
I like the bumper a lot. Great paint. And, I like it hiding the spare tire so neatly. I vote WITH the bumper.
I do worry that the bumper covers your license plate, though. Maybe you could relocate the tail lights up to get the license over the top of the bumper like stock?
Make that another vote for keeping the bumper. I love your truck and I admire anyone with the skill and patience to remain stock. I chose to go "dark side" for several reasons but still love the look of a stocker. I don't guess there is a "wrong" way for us to play with our trucks anyway!
Steve, Thanks! I stayed stock because the truck was all there (just rusty!) and not chopped up and it is cheaper and easier to stay stock. Also I think it honors my Grandfather better when it is stock.
Randy Jack, I just read the thread on the hidden license plate problem. I have never been stopped since I put a bumper on in 1999. If I do my answer is: this is stock, this is how it would have come from the factory. Before I restored the truck it did not have a rear bumper.
