Will rear leaf springs from a later model truck (80's) fit on the older model trucks (73-79)? Specifically, will heavier duty springs (on an F250 or F350) work on a measly ol' '74 F-100 with a 9" rear end?
I had put a set of springs off a 99 superduty on a 78 f-250 4x4. So long as they are the same width, they should be ok, I don't think ford changed the length, but you should measure first.
Besides checking the length you will also want to check the width an make sure the the newer spring are not wider than your truck has on it.

If you're looking for more load carry capacity why not just install a good set of helper springs. Also, keep in mind you still will have 1/2 ton wheel bearings in the rear end.
If you have 3 inch springs its a bolt in swap. If you have the 2 1/2 inchers you need to change front and rear hangers and the rear shackle. The center pin on the late model springs is about 1 inch farther back which really doesnt matter.
