Hi all, i have a bit of a problem. Parked my truck two nights ago (79 ford-150 ranger) the next morning it wouldn't start. motor turns over normal. I got it down to no spark to the plugs.Could it be the module in the distributor? Please help, Stumped
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-Nov-02 AT 01:00 PM (EST)]it very well can be, but also it could be the duraspark box (module). Its located on the side of the engine compartment. Aluminum in color, ususally near the brake master cylinder. The pick-up coil is in the distributor. You can check for a pulse at the connector from the distributor if you have a digital volt meter. Also, check the ground connector wire (black) as it enters the distributor, and screws to the base of it. This wire is where the module gets its ground from, and it can be a problem. Losen the the distributor and turn it back and forth to make sure it has a clean ground to the engine block. These problems take a little while to diagnose. If you dont have a volt meter, or have the knowledge, you can try putting a new pick up coil and module in, and see what happens. They are not too pricey. Ford no longer makes the pick-up coil, so your aftermarket bound. They do still make the control module though. The quality of them is obviously good, but only have a 12-12 warranty. I went after market for a module to throw in the back of my truck when i go camping. Heck, almost half the price, and 5 year, 50,000 mile warranty. Seems like a good deal to me at any rate. Good luck, and let us know whats up.-- One last thing, make sure the connector and wiring going to the distributor is tie strapped securly to a near by item. This will support the wiring from fatigue. The volume of air from the fan on mine, kept moving the connector, until the wiring inside broke.
