Question 6.0 High Idle Question

We have an 04 Pickup and i installed the high idle mod as described in the tech folder and i wish to do the same on our 05 Excursion. I found the white wire with the blue stip by the OBII port but i cant seem to locate the other wire by the E-Brake. There are three wires there with caps on ends they are White with orange stripe, Green with White stripe, and a solid yellow. I did locate a wire near the OBII port that was the Light Blue with the Yellow stripe. However it is going into a conector.. The conector then goes somewhere.. I thought maybe it was already in the truck but then why is the white wire with the blue stripe just hanging?..and or if it does already have it i cant figure out how to make it work.. I am thinking that maybe the in the 1.5 years they might have changed the color but as there are 3 wires i dont want to tap into the wrong one... Any help is appreciated thanks

The wire you are looking for near the park brake is solid orange, the one by the OBDII port is blue with a white stripe. Just did this mod on my 05 SD F250 4X4 last week.

Ok, this may be a bit complicated, but pay attention - you can do this. Once completed, one UpFitter switch will raise the idle to 1200 rpm (6.0L).

Project Cost: $47,560 (including truck)
Project Time: 4-6 weeks (includes truck ordering, building, & delivery time)

You will need the following:
1ea - 2005 Ford Truck
2ea - red butt connectors (or solder & tape)
1ea - available UpFitter switch (although any 12v switched source will do)
1ea - access to this forum
1ea - crimping tool
1ea - long nose pliers
6" - stranded hook-up wire (14-16 ga)
11 mm - socket
1ea - ratchet for socket
1ea - ability to follow directions (with pictures)
Optional:
1ea - garage large enough to enclose the truck (especially when raining)
1 to 6 - 12 oz refreshments
1 - Ford Tough tatoo
1ea - Electrical Engineering Degree
1pr - non-conductive footwear
Directions:
  1. Remove all rings, watches, & bracelets (a must when doing electronics)
  2. Remove the drivers side access panel (below the steering wheel)
  3. Using the 11mm socket & ratchet, remove the 4 bolts which hold the fuse panel. Gently, pull the fuse box through the opening and leave it hang.
  4. Look for the UpFitter wire bundle as noted in this photo:
  5. Choose which switch you want to use. I used Aux-4 as it is one of the 10 amp circuits and only a signal voltage is required. Here is a list of wires:
    Aux-1 Circuit No 1936 wire color: Orange/Lt. Green [30amp]
Aux-2 Circuit No 1933 wire color: Orange [30amp]
    Aux-3 Circuit No 1934 wire color: Orange/Yellow [10amp]
    Aux-4 Circuit No 1935 wire color: Orange/Lt. Blue [10amp]
  6. Pull the black end off the chosen wire and strip off 1/4" of the insulation.
  7. Crimp one end of one butt connector to this wire.
  8. Prepare the 6" wire by stripping 1/4" of the insulation off both ends.
  9. Crimp one end of the 6" wire to the open end of the butt connector used above.
  10. Crimp another butt connector to the other end of the 6" wire.
  11. Locate the top of the parking brake pedal (approximately 6" below the AUX wires).
  12. Locate the SEIC/CASC wire bundle (about 12 wires with black ends) as noted in this photo:
  13. Locate the solid ORANGE wire. There are many orange wires in this bundle, but most have a color tracer. You must use the SOLID orange wire.
  14. Pull the black end off the SOLID ORANGE wire and strip off 1/4" of the insulation.
  15. Insert the SOLID ORANGE wire into the open end of the butt connector attached to the 6" hookup wire.
  16. This completes the electrical portion of this project. You need to replace the fuse box and access cover.
Testing

All the following are required to enable high idle:
Parking brake applied.
Foot off of service brake.
Vehicle in PARK (automatic trans.)
Foot off of clutch (manual trans.)
Foot off of accelerator pedal
Vehicle speed is 0 mph (stationary)
Brake lights functional
Engine at a stable base idle speed
Start your engine! Flip the UpFitter switch. The engine will idle up to 1200 rpm. If any of the required items changes state, the engine will go to its normal idle speed. If the item state is changed back to the required state, the idle will return to 1200 within 3 seconds.

There are many options available (higher rpm, gas engine information, E-series, etc) and all are noted in this document I noted in my first post in this thread (thanks Y-Guy).

Happy Hi-Idling!

Jim

This is a reprint form high Idle post a while back in here.

Are you sure that you have the blue w/white stripe in the harness coming to the connector? It should have been not connected, just loose in the wire bundle. Also Jim shows a really good picture of the pto wire harness bundle.

Also he gives instructions about making sure that park brake is set, truck in park or neutral, then and only then will it high idle. Side note, if you release the park brake, or step on the service brake, it will kill the high idle. Even though your switch is on.

From: Fort. Lauderdale FL,
Im sorry to be such a pain but we cant seem to locate the wire bundle with the 4 aux switches wires...Could it be that we dont have the upfitter switch option...Are the wires already ran or do they only run them if you have the switches.. we are really having a problem with this and kinda need it as the truck does idle for extended periods of time and would hate to have to buy the part from ford.. It was so easy on our 350 but this excursion is just kicking our butt... We did it once already so we have an idea on how its supposed to work...We were able to locate the White wire with the blue stripe near the OBII conector and thats one of the wires i use in our 350 to make this work and the above post says nothing about using that wire so i dont know...i will be waiting patiently for any help thanks alot....

It is not the upfitter switch bundle you are looking for. Jim had this option in his truck and used one of the 4 for his high idle switch. On my 05 SD F250, there is a bundle shown in the 2nd picture of his post. There should be about 12 wires with a white identification tag holding them to the harness they are ran with. On my truck it was almost directly under the steering column, more than near the parking brake.

Hmmmm I am wondering...I am a little confused and im sorry to be haha. BUT I am none the less... So if i find this bundle with the 12 wires and the black caps on the ends(didnt find it yet) and get that one solid orange wire.. Where am i going with it.. Same place i did on my SD(white wire with the blue stripe with the black cap near the OBII conector) I Did find that wire... And THEN put my 12V switch between the Solid Orange wire in the bundle of 12 with the caps and the white wire by the OBII conector.. That would make sence to me but i will have to try if this is the correct way to do it... My SD was way easier then this Ex. But we have alot more going on under the wheel then the SD with the conectors for the power pedles the wires for the ESOF..and that being that the SD was built in mid 03 and the Ex was built in mid 05 So its just a little trickier...Thanks again for all your help

"So if i find this bundle with the 12 wires and the black caps on the ends(didnt find it yet) and get that one solid orange wire.. Where am i going with it."

You will connect the orange wire to one connector of the switch you plan on using, and connect the blue wire with the white stripe, (should be capped, or like mine have black tape on the end of it, at any rate, it is loose and not connected to the OBD II port) to the other connector of your switch.

If you plan on using a lighted switch, you will connect the blue with white stripe to the power, or 12+ side of the switch, the orange to the load side of the switch, and ground to the - side of the switch. ( There are several bolts under the dash that Ford uses for grounds, so you wont have to drill a new one.)

Don't mean to be a spoiler, but are you sure up fitter switches are even an option on an Excursion. 05 Excursion seems to be a throw back to the 04 SD.

From: Fort. Lauderdale FL,
You know i started to think that the aux wasnt an option. BUT i wasnt looking for the AUX wires in the first place.. I understand what you are saying about the EX being a throw back to the 04 SD as the 05Excursion still uses leafs up front instead of coils. On our 04 SD though the wires were very straight foward from the Tech folder... Took me 15min on my lunch break to do it. Also if this 05 Ex is still utilizing alot of things from the 04SD then why this 05 EX and our 04SD dont have the same wires underneath...it would make sence to me that if it WAS an 04SD wireing inside then it would be as easy... I will take some pics and post and maybe someone can repost with some arrows on what may need to be done with our current wire config. Thanks alot..

Butch; i will be arund the house today we can maybe take a look if we are both not busy as i needed to come over but dont know what for yet.. WE also need to sign me out of your computer from the last time i was there you are starting to confuse me haha posting under my name and me reading it with your sig..haha crazy computers.... call me

05 Ex Aic

I can't find the pesky SEIC blunt cut wires in my EX either!!!
just the four through the fire wall wires and the three wires there with caps on ends they are White with orange stripe, Green with White stripe, and a solid yellow. I did locate a wire near the OBII port that was the Light Blue with the Yellow stripe. this has power and is hooked to one side of the switch.
Has anyone figured out how to hook up the mod?

On an 05 EXCURSION that is.
I wonder if the wires are in the bundle and just not sticking out?
