Running board gasket?

I'm like Earl on this one. I couldn't find anything on my cab or running boards. It looks like the PO had something on there and perhaps rivoted it on to the cab lower edge. I went through several pictures of F100's and it looks like several of them don't have anything there and have a gap. Others appear to have nothing, but the running boards are flush with the cab???? From a distance you can see the gap and it looks bad. From up close, you really don't notice unless you look for it. I might crawl underneath the truck this weekend and maybe come up with some creative ideas. I'll let you guys know.
