Garage size

So what do you guys call a big enough garage?
My dad always said you'll never build one big enough but i think that's because mom keeps filling it.
Anyway i think I'm gonna build a 30' 40' with a 10' ceiling whenever I buy this house hopefully this week or early next week.
Construction on garage would not start till probably next spring or summer. though.

I have a 2 car garage but it's still not big enough for my Bronco II. I don't see how they get 2 cars in there.. Mine's barely short enough to get in when it hails or whatever. But I'd have to say the size big enough for 4 cars.. but only have one car in there

Don't have but I do deeply desire one. But would make do just having a paved driveway instead of gravel.

It will NEVER be big enough!!! When I had a 20'X20' garage, I filled it quick. I just rented a 25' x 40' for my business and it is not big enough.

That said, build as big as your budget allows. One suggestion is to go with a higher ceiling so a lift will fit in the future.
Good luck!

If I ever have a lift in a garage it will not be at this place.

I am buying this place at a good prce, I plan on doing stuff like adding a garage and then in two or three years from now this place will be FOR SALE at what the sale price "should" be right now.

Figure out what you think you need, quadruple it and you might be able to park a bicycle in it. I used to have a 22x32 with a 12x30 shelter on the back. It was severely undersized but my mistake was not building a seperate building just for storage.

That is for sure, I have a 42 X 60, not big enough. Built another one a
few years ago 40 X 80, now it isnt big enough. I think I could build the Astrodome and could fill it up in a couple of months

I think mine is like 24x 28 and with an ext. cab long box F250, BII, 2 tool boxes,a few engines and a couple work benches and other tools in there, I have to climb over stuff to get anywhere. You can never have enough indoor storage, I could fill a 100' x 50' shop right now with all my stuff and still would need a little more space.

My uncle has one that's 400 x 100.. think that's big enough? All he has in there is junk though. But it's holding 2 cars and 2 trucks too, along with a few engines. He has a hydro frame lift too.. that's where I put my lift kit on

If you want a garage, at least double what you think you need/want, and then be sure to budget for a shed out back for all of the lawn care junk. I don't know how much property you have, but a riding mower takes up just enough room that you won't be able to get a car into one of the bays.

im blest to have a 50 x 100 big cheif farm shed, now even tho our trucks and combine keep it pretty full, all i have to do is pull something out or use the cement in the front half to do my stuff, cause when i do something stuff gets laid out in order so that i know exactly when stuff came off

My 3 car is 25 deep by 35 wide, 8 ft ceiling. on the front edge is a 2 foot lip for my shelves and workbench.

We bought this house JUST after they had framed the garage..(durn it).. I wanted 10ft and another 15-20 ft deep.. but we couldn't do it..(within reasonable finances..)

So 30 deep sounds too shallow to me. at 25 (23 to the front edge of the workbench).. there is not really enough room to move around a vehicle with the garage door closed..

BUT, if you're gonna sell soon, don't waste too much money on it..

Its tight, but works.. I just swaped a straight 6 in my sons Jeep and took the cab off my 55 F100 frame. I had to close the garage door for both to get enough clearance..

On the engine pull, I had to have the car 1/2 in the garage to have enough room to swing the hoist (another 5 feet wouldn't have been enough). But I had to partially close the door too.. down to the top of the car..

I miss the previous house with 11ft ceiling in the garage.. but everyone had to walk thru it to get into the house.. now I have a detached garage. now with air conditioning!!
