4.6 compatibility?

4.6 compatibility?
The gutless 4.6 in my 1997 4 x 4 auto just took a major ****. So I need to replace it. I am thinking of a 5.4 swap (found a 1999 5.4 in great shape) but I need the truck running like yesterday. I know that they have 3 different 4.6's they put in the trucks, and what every they stuffed in the mustang. Can I use any 4.6 to get my truck on the road again, or dose it have to be the same year, and type?

They are different dimensionally. The 5.4L is taller and wider. Since your truck has plug wires, the whole engine harness must be used from the donor truck. The exhaust may need to be modified to fit the larger engine. The computer must be used off of the 5.4L as well.
