Well it should bolt right in without much modification cause they came in the truck i think you might need different wiiring harness and you might need a new bellhousing depends on what tranny you have so you might not have to change it

did u replace the 4.6 with just the regular 5.4 or the lighning motor? will that one fit also ? this same thread has been on quite a few times and in the past everyone was saying that it would cost too much and be too much work, so is that really all there is too it ?? something i could be interested in, in the future !!

What about motor mounts? And did you use the coil packs from the 4.6l or did you use the COP's for the 5.4l?

The engine we used had motor mounts on it, so was the COP'S.

I figured it couldn't be that bad. I'd thought about the same in the future instead of tearing down the 4.6 in my 98 4x4 and building it for more power. Much rather have a larger stock motor than a smaller one that's been juiced.

Yes you can put the Lightning motor in it.It's about the same as putting in a stock 5.4 but you will need custom tuning of the computer and with the extra power you'll need to beef up the tranny If you want it to last.
I have a built up Lightning motor in my 03 Supercrew.

did you change your trans or did you beef it up to handle the power of the lighting motor.

I had a locol shop put everything thats in a mosterbox tranny plus some other upgrade parts.
Unfortunately is been in there 2 times since the first rebuild. First time I tore out the sprag. Next time was to upgrade to a PI converter and put some other parts in that would make it stronger. It got kinda expensive!

is your truck a 4x4 and did your truck have a 4.6 engine in it and then you decided to install a 5.4 lighting motor. are you running the stock tran and upgraded transmission. i would think a transmission from a 5.4 truck would be stong enough the handle the lighting motor. would you agree. with my experience with building cars the heat is what kills your trans. i have been told that as long as you can control the heat in a transmission it should be OK. but i know what your saying about the HP and Torque difference with the 4.6 and the lighting motor. did you use your stock computer and have programed for the new motor or did you use the computer from the lighting motor. do you have a hand help computer controller like FAST EFI, or PMS to ajust your computer or did you have a chip burned.

Thanks for the insight about this build

The 5.4 has a 4R70W trans. The lightning has the 4R100 like in an F-250.It was not the heat that hurt my tranny but the torque!
My truck came stock with 4X4 and the 5.4 I took all the 4X4 parts out.Had to have the trans converted to a 2WD tail shaft and housing. Also had to have a custom 2 piece drive shaft made.
I am using the stock computer with a programmable flip chip.I can flip a switch and I have about 5 different tunes on it.I think I can get 7 on there.
