Question Drop down steering arm? Does our truck...

Does our truck need a drop down steering arm with a lift kit?

Just doesn't come to me right now.
Thanks for any help,
-Matt

on my 79 f-250 4x4, i had national spring put on all new springs with about a 2-2.5" lift. had to install a new pitman arm. {drop down} It would be helpfull if we knew what year and how high you want to lift your truck.

Anything past about 3.5" requires a dropped pitman arm. It will be difficult to get a gear puller in there, so use a modified ball joint fork.

I was just wondering if our trucks had steering arms. I know I need a drop down pitman arm on my 79 with my 6" lift, but I heard about a steering arm and was just wondering if our truck have them. I know chebbys have them, but didn't know if our trucks had them.

I was looking at my truck tonight with one of my chebby buddys. Both of our trucks have D44 front ends, and both have what he calls a stearing arm. I am wanting about a 4" lift, and was planning on a drop down pitman. He said I needed a raised stearing arm. From my electrician's eye *****, It looks like eather will work, but I will talk to someone that knows befor I do anything.

I've seen guys that lift chebbys and put a steering arm, because of the lift, but I haven't heard this being done to a ford. So I was just wondering if we had one, and if I needed a drop down steering arm and a drop down pitman arm.

Thanks for the comments so for fellas.

It would seem like a drop down steering arm is what is needed. If you go with a drop down pitman arm the steering arn might rub on the leaf spring.

If it's a dana 60 front axle, you can buy a block kit to raise the arm. I've never seen a raised arm for one. If it's a dana 44 you can buy a block or a raised arm for those.

So you do need a steering arm to complete the lift?

My 78 is lifted 5 1/8 and I used a dropped pitman. I have no problems with rubbing or turning radius

Thanks Steve I didn't think you needed any more than a dropped pitman arm.
