This is a '73 F-100 with 302. I just swapped in a C4 to replace the tired 3 speed manual. I don't have the kickdown rod. The carb is the factory 2 bbl (which DOES have the kickdown rod attachment pin in the linkage).
I have seen this 302/C4 setup in other trucks and it is a simple shaped rod from the tranny to the carb linkage (no brackets involved). I have a few 302/C4 kickdown rods from cars, but of course it's a different firewall so they won't fit. The local boneyards are thin on trucks so no luck there. Sooo....I'm gonna make one, or rebend one that I have, but I need to know the original's shape and dimensions.
Does anyone have images, or can snap a few of this rod? Or a part number?
Would certainly be appreciated!!
I've got one for a FMX/302 and I've got to believe that they are the same. I took mine off because the attachment part at the tranny is shot and is too much trouble to replace. It runs just fine without it. I'll pull it out and take a photo tomorrow morning.
Check around a junk yard for the rod. Probably want to replace the carb for one off an automatic or replace the base of the carburator of one off an automatic engine.
1975Ford, it's like you didn't even read the original posting.
I took some pictures this morning but can't figure out how to attach to this message. Send me a PM with your email and I'll send em to you. It basically comes off the right side of the carb on the linkage takes a pretty good right turn (looking at it from the front of the engine) of about 85* to miss the firewall then down and around the block and then angles slightly back and in to line up with the tranny linkage. Hope this helps.

I've done this swap - the passenger car C4 kickdown rod will work - the key is you must have the truck C4 kickdown lever on your tranny - it moves the kickdown rod more to the center of the truck and eliminates the interference with the firewall seam.
Polkat,
It is a "C" shaped lever that has a square hole on one end that will slip on to a stud on your transmision. On the other end it has a stud that will go through the hole on the end of the rod. I can provide a picture of one that fits a C6 if it will help you.
Doc
Thanks rfxj3. Saw them on the yahoo site. yes, different from my car rods. I'm thinking I can bend one of mine into this shape.
Can I ask one more favor from you? Can you tell me the straight line measurement between the centers of the mounting holes. Don't need to follow the rod...just straight from hole center to hole center. Thanks!
