Rotor Questions - 2003 Excursion 4x4
I did a complete brake job on my Ex at 71k miles - new rotors (AutoZone, IIRC), new pads. The fronts were a bit warped and were pulsating a bit.
Truck now has almost 170k miles and front pads are looking a bit thin. Not making noise yet, but I picked up some OEM pads to swap out.
Don't plan on turning the rotors; figure the new pads will help out with that. Also don't want to make them unnecessarily thinner because I think that will lead to warping. Anyone strongly disagree?
Also, what's the spec on the rotor thickness? Just want to make sure they're thick enough.
Doing a brake fluid flush while I'm at it. Figure I should be good for a year or two and then the rear brakes will need new pads.
Thanks,
Scott
Didn't end up changing the pads; I have at least 1/4" of pad left. Most of my miles are highway miles, so 1/4" of pad should get me to my next tire rotation 8,000 miles from now.
I have a set of spare rotors here; they were marked with the minimum width (different brands, but assume the minimums are the same) - - rear rotors have minimum of 28 mm. My passenger rear is 29.998 mm, driver rear is 29.540 mm. Front rotors have a minimum of 36 mm. My driver front is 37.440 mm, driver rear is 37.973 mm.
The rotors aren't gouged at all, either, so I don't see any need to turn them.
Thanks
Scott
