That truck should have the very weak closed knuckle D44 under it. Somebody probably got sick of busted axles and U-joints, and replaced it with a D44 HD.
well,
it is a closed knuckle and its much bigger on the ends than the ones I see on other trucks like this. It has the large wheel hub like the HD but it has drum brakes.
The other wierd thing is the number(44-8EF), it doesn't show in the book anywhere it just lists 44-6CF and 44-6CF-HD for the f250 4x4.
and the pictures they show on the breakdown are close but not the same as what this one is.
The code on the door says P but the book I belive is in error because it says the P code is for Dana 60F. it is not a 60 because the cover is the same as a 44 and I don't think the D60 was put in until 78 or 79.
strange, oh well it is what it is and thats what it shall be.
