Front hub problems(man. lockout)
I've got a 00 4x4 psd superduty, manual trans/t-case and locking hubs. I pulled out a big truck that was stuck in the mud, and had to get after it a little bit to get it out. I was rotating my tires and noticed that my right front wheels sounds like a ratchet almost. I figured right off the bat that it was the front wheel bearings. Apon further investigation I can lock the hubs in, and it goes away. The hubs stay locked until you jockey the wheel and roll it backwards, and it pops pretty good like the lockout is binding up. I can lock and unlock the hubs several times and the ratcheting noise goes away. I think the noise is the hub not fully unlocked. Does this sound like a wheel bearing, or a bad lockout??

It seems to me if the bearings were worn enough to make that sort of noise, then you could feel the play in the wheel when you lift it.
One would only hope that the locking hub has gone south. Have you removed the hub and checked it and the bearings with it removed?
