I have an 89 Bii 2.9 4x4 the usual.... I recently replaced the evaporator then vacummed the ac and put in freeze 12. THe guages i got from auto zone wouldnt hook up to the freeze 12 cans so i just put in 3 cans of freon. IT blows around 50degrees should it blow colder? It doesnt cool like it use to. When its around 100 degrees outside it doesnt cool for crap. Any ideas? I dont know if it has enough freon, but the ac compressor doesnt kick off and i dont want to put too much into it. What the specs for the amt of freon for this vehicle? Im new to ac systems but im a do it yourselfer so..
2pounds 6 oz is the amount of freon to use of r12 or r134a
no more than three cans. first off you went to autozone they don't know squat.
they might have sold you a r-134a hose kit and just cuase it says universal don't mean that. outside temperature affects freon. why not convert your ac to 134a cost is minimal
Yea ive learned that auto zone doesnt know shiz when it comes to ac stuff. My problem is the ac hoses i get from auto zone wont fit my cans of freeze 12. I have approx 2 and 1/2 cans in my system atm. i want to add more but dont want to over do it. DO they make hoses for freeze 12 that i could convert or should i just start over and convert to 134, also if i do convert to 134 what type of fittings do i have to change?
if there an advance auto parts there or equal to it .
look for interdynamics artic freeze conversion kit has all the fittings for r-134a brings three cans of artic freeze 134a with oil. and the new valve connections. comes with the kit.
Aggie,I have freeze 12 in my 90 BII.It worked much better than 134 for me.It gets down to 40 degrees at the vents.I used R-12 gauges with a top can tap.
IS the pressure range the same for r-12? 40-50 psi? Is it important that you vacumm all the old freon out? Reason i asking is b/c i put a vacumm on it, then i didnt have gauges but the guy at the autoparts store said about 3 cans of freon. so i did, well today i got the guages and it was at 80 psi. I let enough out to where its at 50 now, but its not blowing that cold? any ideas? If the compressor still kicks on does it still function properlly?> im knew to working on ac systems.... any help would be appreciative! thx ~bronco II man in need of ac!!!
Aggie, are you still using 134?,because if you are,I dont think you will ever get it as cold as you want.If I were you I would start all over with freeze 12.Evacuate the system and put in 2 cans of freeze 12.If your compressor is in good shape and you have the right amount of oil in the system(too much oil and it wont cool good),it should do pretty good.
IM using freeze 12, i buy them at a napa for about 12 bucks a can. And i dont have a license. I think i figured out the problem, when i replaced the evaporator i didnt put the orfice tube in there ( didnt know better). That would explain the high pressure and why its not cooling great. Ive bought the orfice and will let you know if that fixed it. thx for the info.
WOOOHOO, put the orfice tube in, recharged with 2 cans of freeze 12. approx 43psi. And its blowing 40 degrees idling, and around 35 on the road! I live in tx and its like 95 degrees out so i am extremely impressed. Thx for all the advice. It was a more learn as u go process as much of auto tinkering is.
Glad you fixed it Aggie. I paid about 10 dollars per can the last time I bought freeze 12.I dont have a license, and had no problem getting it .Things may be different now.It has been about 6 months since I bought any.
i gotta find some of this freeze 12 stuff!!!! anyone know if o'reilly or autozone carries a similar product? these are the only two i KNOW i have locally
