Gas gauge problem

I have a 78' F150 4x4 with dual tanks when I have the selector switch to the rear tank the guage reads and when the selector switch is to the front tank the guage drops to empty-there is gas in the tank and the truck will run even if the switch is on the front tank(as long as there is gas in it)
I figure it is probably the sending unit in the front tank.

Has anyone ever dropped the front tank and how hard is it to replace the sending unit?
I have a parts truck that has a good sending unit in its only rear tank, will the sending unit out of it work in my front tank on my truck?

Any useful information would be greatly appreciated.

Gas gauge problem

This is a common problem and there are active Numerous threads about this topic.
May I suggest looking through the first few pages of the forum as the search feature is offline right now..

And yes the S/U's are interchangable between tanks.
