Fuel guage problems

I replaced a fuel pump and sending unit in the front tank of a 1990 F150 4x4 w/ 5.8L with a junkyard unit. The problem is that after I installed it, the fuel guage pegged out over the full mark and stays there even when I switch to the rear tank (which worked fine prior to changing the pump) The front tank is empty and the rear has maybe 1/4 tank of fuel. Both tanks pump fuel fine, just do not read on the guage correctly. What is the likely problem? Thanks in advance for any help!

An open circuit.
High resistance = high reading.
Maybe a bad selector switch on the dash or open wires to both sending units.
Who knows, it could also be a bad gauge or two bad sending units.

Thank you for the reply, Subford. It turns out that it was the selector switch for the tanks. I replaced the switch today and now the guage works properly for both tanks. Thanks again for the reply and diagram.
