I own a 2004 6.0l F-250. I love the truck, but about a month ago it guit running. I was accelerating from a dead stop and the engine shut down just as if I shut it off with the key. It had no noises or sputtering before it died. It was towed to the dealership were it has been for the last month. They have told me that the fuel pump locked up. They put on a new fuel pump and the truck ran for a few minutes and quit again. They said that the fuel pump locked up again. This sounds strange and wondering how the fuel pump can lock up. Can any of you Ford guys help me out in figuring out the problem. Thanks!

Reason: Spelling
I talked with the mechanic today and it is not the fuel pump they are having trouble with it is the high pressure oil pump. They say it is not producing enough pressure to run the injectors. They are going to try again to replace the pump. Is there any pressure regulation on this engine that may be bleeding off to soon resulting in low pressure?
We are seeing issues w/ either the case to head tube o-rings popping or the branch tubes cracking at the high pressure pump. Both of those issues will cause a no start situation and a low ICP reading. There are several tests the tech can run to determine which issue he has. Hope its just the case to head tube o-ring. The branch tube is a PITA and requires disassembly of the rear of the engine to access.
I got the truck back running fine. They said they replaced the high pressure oil pump and it started right up. So this would be the third high pressure oil pump on this truck. I am running Amsoil Synthetic in this truck. Do I need to go back to conventional oil?

Hard to say...
Has your oil level stayed at or near full all the time (especially when it dies)? The fail safe I was told for these motrs is that if you loose oil for any reason the injectors can't fire... and hence no damage to your truck.
Is your truck burning oil some way. Has your injectors allowed for diesel fuel to seep into the oil system and diluted the oil... which will ruin the oil pump and turbo? Did you or they take an oil sample and see if the oil has been diluted with diesel? All of these are possibilities... or it could just be the oil pump.... but you said it is the third one.... which leads me to believe that something else is the cause!!!!
I donot use Amsoil, just make sure that it is diesel rated and carries the CI4 or CI4+ rating which these motors require - no matter how good the oil is or the marketing.
Let me clarify the three pump deal. The second pump only lasted 5 minutes so I am figuring they put something in the wrong. The third pump is running fine. I will do the oil sample myself and send it to Amsoil for analysis. Thanks!
