Question Suggestions on tires

I have been steadily driving my '03 6.0 for three months now going from So. Cal. to Alaska, Canada and more recently Montana and currently in Wyoming in weather that has been for the most part very good. I have been towing a TT that weighs in at about 6000 lbs, and the tires on my truck are BFG Rugged Terrain T/A's, LT 265/75R16. I will be on the road for another year going to various parts of the good old USA racking up lots of miles (current mileage is 41K) and will be needing tires before long. I like the BFG's, but would consider other brands that are better. Any opinions out there?
As you can see by my handle, I think the 6.0L rules.

Great to hear you are having such good luck in racking up all those miles with a TT behind you. I bought mine for towing also but will not be able to do that many miles in one trip. WoW, sounds like an outstanding jouney.
I think Michelin are good tires for highway, as well as snow, which will be here soon enough up there in the Northwest. I'm a little limited right now since I have the 18 inch wheels but if I had my druthers, I would Probably go for Michelin. If you come across a Costco, and you happen to have a membership, you can get a good deal with road hazard warranty and free rotation/maintenance etc.
Happy Trails, Tim

I agree with Tim, I put a set fo Michlin LTX M/S on my 03 right before I traded it in on my 05. I had a set on my 97 Sliverado and had 90,000 on them when I traded it on the 03 PSD while they were well wore, they gave great service, and still had good tread left on them. Never had an issue with the Michlins.

On my 03 I had about 5000 miles on the LTX's when I traded it in, and after replacing the stock BFG's it rode like a completely different truck. I had 55,000 on the stock BFG's and they were shot. The front tires were cupped pretty bad. Well I will admit that I did not rotate them as often as I should have, I rotated the Michilins on my silverado with the same frequency, and had no uneven wear issues with them. I do however check tire pressure very often. I put the set of LTX's on the 03 for less than $800 with the road hazard, and lifetime rotation and balance. They were of course 16.5 though.

I have Toyo Open Country A/T's on and so far I love em'. I drove from Northern Idaho down to San Diego last winter and hit some nasty snow storms along the way in Idaho, Washington and Oregon. There were times that there was ice with some snow on top and never felt a slip. I also agree with the Michelin tires. My father in law swears by them. He does a lot of traveling to the different parks around the US and has always got high miles out of them too.

Thanks for the input. I have to admit that I favor the Michelin brand since that is what I had on a 1997 Explorer. When I replaced the old set of Michelin's with a new set from Costco, the new set never rode as quietly or smoothly as the originals. I took them back on two occasions to ensure they were balanced but the problem persisted. The BFG's are wearing great and ride real quiet, so I will have to bite the bullet at some point in the near future. Anyway, thanks again for taking the time to respond.

I vote for the Michelin LTX MS also. I have a set on my Ranger with over 70,000 miles on them now, and still plenty of tread left....Just an observation I have made, look at the balance weights on Michelins, verses other tire manufacturers. You will see there are no weights, or small weights on most Michelins, an indication of the manufacturing quality of the tires....

Michelin LTX M/S. You can even get them in the 285/75-16 variety if you like that sort of thing. The larger tires carrying capacity is greater than the 265. Make sure you get the Ds though, because they have Cs (or had them) for a little less $$.

My dad is going on 60K w/ 5 K rotations on a C1500 and the tires look like they will go 80K. But his tires aren't dealing with a PSD. You get what you pay for....

I've got a buddy that just ordered and installed a set of Mich's with a load range E at costco. If your towing a heavy load, I would consider the E's. I will have to take a look at Tirerack.com next time I need tires as Captain Charlie stated. That time is just around the corner.

i like tirerack's site simply because i can input my size or vehicle . look at the tire make/model and thread design go down and get first hand remarks about the tire as to how it worked all over the country in all weather and road conditions. then make up my mind and shop around for a price locally.
in the case of my wifes liberty we got a set of yokohama's geolander. man what a difference in ride and handleing, esp this past winter in the snow here. over the factory good years.
tireracks price even with shipping was great

Bridgestone Revos get the highest rating at Tirerack I think. I just put a set on and my 99 F350 Crewcab and the ride is much improved.

Bridgestones and Firestones are good on a sports car, but I've forund the compound to be too soft for high miles. They tend to wear quickly.
