I was at the Car Craft Summer Nationals yesterday at the state fair grounds, and a buddy and I were checking out this booth that customizes EVERYTHING.
There was a D-max there. "I was like open the hood". it had a Banks Six Gun and the gauges that come with it. so far I was not impressed. my bud is like "whats it put out?" the guy says "I dont know, its got the whole Banks Kit, prolly 590HP 900 lbsTQ"!!! so as I am lifting myself off the ground I say NO WAY. not with just a programer. I just got a blank stare from the guy. So I say "drive it across the road, there is a dynojet right there" get some real number before you just guess. he says "no, I dont have time" and goes back to his stool in the shade. I just laughed and walked away. what a dork, the things some people think. I dont see a banks kit getting that thing over 350-400 at the wheels.
That was actually the second guy who told me his Banks equiped D-Max was 600 HP. the other was a junk yard hound who was bragging that he didn't have time to hook up his propane, or pyro.
Some owners don't fully understand the mods they put on. Or maybe just the hype!
Anyways I tangled with one over the 4th of July weekend.
Trucks race going up hill, and I had the pleasure to race one to 95mph up the grade from Sacramento to Lake Tahoe up to 8000ft. It was a late model Duramax long bed dually. Definitely had a chip, and exhaust. We were of equal weight. They had 4 persons in the cab, and my X with 3 plus camping gear. He couldn't shake me and we were passing everyone up the winding interstate, and when I took the lead, he gave up. I was just a little faster. I now have a tuner, intake, and BB turbo. Now have great respect for the modded Chevy Duramax. They are not slow.

Diesel Rod
I believe them.......you probably didn't see that second engine behind the seat.
What about that new truck that Banks is producing the "Sidewinder". I heard it has around 500hp and 1,000 tq. Now don't get me wrong there was much more involved that just a programmer. That is also a bit off from the 590 hp and 900 tq numbers that he said. Maybe that guy had no idea what parts went into the truck and he was just guessing. This is just my $.02 so take it for what it is worth.
Most of the kids here never heard of "TV Tommy". It was great to have a fond memory of him, though.
Twin Buicks, as I recall.
Pop
I thought I'd throw his name up, and see if someone would ask. I feel that it's always good to try to enlighten people.
Your right about the duel buicks. But I think his most crowning achievment was that quad.....all wheel drive. Too heavy to be effective....but man it was impressive when he fired it up, and dropped the hammer. That was back when you could stand 10 feet from the line, and go home covered in burnt rubber.

Sidewinder is powered by a Cummins and is a couple of years old now. It was built solely for the purpose of setting the land speed record for a diesel powered vehicle...which it did, and bringing more attention to the brand name to make the company more money.....which it also did. But what good does a 220 MPH truck do you on the highway? There are several diesel trucks around that can whup it on a drag strip (mid 12's) or in a pull and are still driven daily.
Welcome to the site BTW.

I have given up explaining to them that thier (insert car here) would struggle to make that kind of power with (insert slighty power increasing mod here).
They now just get a brief look at my tail lights if I can be bothered...
Speaking of Sidewinder. Anyone know if Hypermax have thier PSD powered Ranger going yet? And if so, what speeds they have hit with it.
Thier website hasn't changed at all

Are you saying you were stock when you raced him?
Maybe the guy took the crank specs, and then added the number that Gale Banks said it would/could gain in HP and torque? Still doesnt make sense, but he might have added his own numbers for the exhaust and intake.

Thank you very much for the welcome. Hopefully I will be able to buy my first PSD shortly (gotta sell the Jeep first).
Anyway I know of that Sidewinder, but that isn't the one I am referring to. Check out this link for a bit more info, but some specs are still missing (http://www.bankspower.com/allterrain.cfm). I saw a Dodge truck with the Sidewinder package on "XTREME 4X4", on Spike TV. The truck was developed to run in the Baja 1000 and I believe it won it's class. They have a pretty sweet suspension set-up and not to mention a serious amount of engine improvements. You can also check out what the engine improvements are by going to http://www.bankspower.com and checking out the "Big Hoss Bundles." There might be some other bits and pieces that are missing from the "Big Hoss Bundles," but for the most part I think pretty much everything is there. I do know that in the Cummins Big Hoss kit, it doesn't include the new turbo that the motor gets. They put a new VG (Variable Geometery) turbo on the truck since it didn't come with one from the factory. Both the PSD and the Duramax come with a VG turbo from the factory. At least that is what they said on the show. Hope this clears all that up.

im one of the lucky few who's been in a 570 rwhp car, so its not 600 but its close. A good friend of mine had a 2000 supercharged SS camaro, with a fully built bottom end to support the power. Needless to say that was the scariest/funnest car to be in.
