EECIV gurus, 7.5L vs 5.0 computers

I will be pulling an EEC IV 7.5L from an '87 F250 tomorrow for my trail rig project. Engine is complete with the computer and was backed up by a 4 sp with OD manual tranny.

Orignally for this project I was going to use the 5.0 from my old F150. It was an '87 also and had the NP 435 4 speed. I kept the 5.0, computer and tranny when I parted the F150 out.

I have looked at the pin outs and the electronic hardware looks to be similiar for both engines, however, how much does the software or look up tables differ between the two engines and computers? I am just wondering if I can keep the 5.0 harness and computer around for a spare for the 7.5L just in case.

I basically plan a stock rebuild/overhaul on the 7.5L. Nothing fancy....yet!

Thanks in advance

yes the harness is the same but you cant run a 5.0 ecu on a 7.5 motor it wont run properly an may damage the motor.

The computers have identical outputs and sensor inputs since they are both speed density, and operate V8 engines.

But the data tables inside are very different. After all, the engines are very different in displacement, and in timing requirements.
