Transgo tugger shift kit
Steel Line Regulator Valves: Replaces Aluminum Stock Valves; Corrects Missing gear, clutch burnup, long shifts.
On/Off Lock-up Valve Kit: Converts long soft pulse
lock-up to short crisp On/Off lockup, and longer converter life.
I especially like the second one... might be a pretty good alternative to a $1000+ torque converter. Is the valve listed first the valve that replaces the ones that are known to fail? Or, I'm a totally off here?
this transmission runs fine, but it has a severe 2-3 shift, not all the time depends on my load and driving style. if i baby the gas pedal i can get a shift that wont throw my coffee cup on the floor...lol
my 1-2 shift is very smooth and the transition is almost undetectable. but that 2-3 shift seems carry alot of rpm then WHAM neck breaking, the 3-4 is smooth also.
my question is will this basic transgo shift kit address these problems?
Forgive me for asking questions of my gasser in the diesel section, this thread seemed most informative.

A GREAT bunch of guys and gals hang their hats here.
The erratic shift harshness may be corrected by installing one of these:
Sonnax - Aftermarket replacement transmission, torque converter, and high performance automotive parts
Not too bad a job, takes about two hours, but is kinda' messy, so a tarp and old clothes are recommended.
Also, an inch-pound torque wrench is mandatory!
But, if you're gonna' get in there to do this, you might wish to also consider installing this kit, too:
4R100 Sonnax Valve Tricumulator kit which also includes the above valve as well. so don't order both.
This solved my trans shifting problem, which sounds exactly like the one you have.

I love the "on-off" valve. Depending on your PCM shift strategy, it will feel like another shift when the torque converter locks.
the 2000 drw 4x4 in touchofgrey's signature... IS Motorbug!
and i fergot to ask touchofgrey if the tugger kit is in the current tranny or the last one?
hopefully i can convince him to come out of hiding...
so he can update his signature with the new toys
) that use both brands of kits. Now I myself have use Sonnax parts in the past with good results so when I rebuilt my 4r100 I installed almost every part Sonnax makes for the 4r100 (expect Valve body parts) in my trans and I am very pleased. I am still running stock tunes and with the Sonnax parts you would swear I had tunes and a shift kit.I think both Tugger and Sonnax both make nice kits but they go about addressing the issues differently. I think the Sonnax kits are easier to install than the Tugger. For example when doing pump mods with the Tugger you are drilling holes in the pump housing as where with the Sonnax pump mods you just install parts, valves and springs and you are done. No drilling holes !! The Sonnax line to lube pressure regulator valve has a check valve built into it. http://www.sonnax.com/system/announcement/36424-04K.pdf
I could go on and on
but like said I used all Sonnax parts in my trans and some Sonnax torque converter parts also. And the only reason I didn't do the valve body was for the cost of the vb bore sizing tools needed to do the vb it is cheaper to go with BTS or JW valve body. I am currently running a stock vb and you would think I had a shift kit in it. I just went about it in a different way. But I am very pleased with my shifts and t.c. lock up.Only one side note with Sonnax when installing the Peformance pack Sonnax - Aftermarket replacement transmission, torque converter, and high performance automotive parts the rear planet end play shims will not work on a 4r100 with the 6 planet rear gear set up. And after many calls Sonnax doesn't make a 3 wide tab shim kit. All they had to say was SORRY. My only negative thing about Sonnax parts for the 4r100. R&D dropped the ball on that one. Their tech line was always very helpful.
