i need help my high pressure pump doesn't function i turn the ignition switch and
i don't even here it anymore what could it be any ideas guys .
i checked under there saw the pump connections were loose so i fixed them still nothing so i put a wire directly to the battery from the positive of the pump and works fine. i changed the fuel filter. just to be sure what color is the fuel pump relay is it the green one? if so how do you know if it's working or not?
Greetings, new to this site and not sure how to start a new thread so i'll just say hi and reply to this one.
Anyway, I got a ford E-250 4X4 pathfinder with a 460 and starter problems. They keep over heating as the exhaust pipe runs right by it. I have the lifetime warrenty starters from nappa but it's a pain-anybody ever use that tape to keep heat down or any other suggestions?

Assuming you have a 2 pump system and the LP pump runs then I would trace the wiring from the HP pump back to were it splits off from the main power feed looking for damage.
have you check out the inertia switch on the passenger side (under the dash just at the carpet line) if this switch has been tripped it shuts off the pump until the switch is reset.
also. under the hood on the passenger side there are a few relays. one of them is for the fuel pump, one is for the injector system and the others control other things. i would check these relays as well
i have 3 relays green one is fuel pump, brown one is ac clutch and the other one is ecc relay right next to the fp relay fuel pump relay can be either part number MR12 OR MR 14. 4 or 5 pin which ever you have .
i haven't changed the ecc relay yet going to tomorrow. and also check the connections to the fp relay and the ecc relay also check the inertia switch it's not tripped. first thing i checked. anyone have a diagram for a 1987 b2 2.9 4x4 a4ld out there would be greatly needed.
i decided to see if it would start up today in the morning and boom my truck started up with no problem got to work when i got out of work it wouldn't start couldn't even hear the hp fuel pump but i can here the low pressure one working fine. i apply direct current to the pump from the batt and i can drive it home like i said in the first place.
i have a test light what wires must be hot at all times and what wires need to be switch on to see 12volts where would i start fuel relay or ecc or inertia switch .
would a faulty ignition switch be to blame?

Go to tetop where it says Ford ruck Enthsiasts Foums> and click on that.. then go to Older, Classic and Antique Trucks, then under that go to 1973-1979 Ford Trucks, and see if someone in there can help you out.
i finally got the truck working again running at least turned out to be a bad psoitive connection from the inertia switch to relay. but now i have another problem .
under idle it runs fine while driving sometimes it bogs down like it's trying to stall.
it has only stalled once. what is there not enough fuel getting to the rail. would my fpr be bad i see no fuel in the line. i get 44psi at the valve. any ideas guys
I have an 89 ranger also. Do you know what the different wires from the crankshaft sensor do? The one coming out of the bundle which goes to a grey connector under the intake has shorted and the truck won't fire. I saw the problem years ago but it has always ran fine until this week.
Pull the vacuum line from your FPR. If gasoline is present, the FPR is bad. My uncle had a Ranger with what sounds like the same problem. Turns out that he had a second fuel filter mounted on the frame rail near the transfer case that needed replacing.

I'm not sure what you mean by crankshaft sensor, were is it loacated? What color wires?
i only have one fuel filter it's located under the driver seat by the starter.
i replaced the pump just to make sure. drained out the gas from the tank added new about half a tank. i checked my fpr it's ok no gas in vac line . injectors were cleaned one by one . thanks ken00 for that bit of advice last time. miracles do happen.
i can get my truck to run now so fuel pressure is at 44psi constant. i changed the fuel pump relay and ecc relay chased wiring front to back and replaced both neg and pos.
inertia switch wasn't tripped for those of you that don't know that's the little small box located by the trans hump on the passenger side that cuts fuel in an impact.
i can drive it but not for long about 5 minutes it starts to bog down and just stalls,
so i checked codes again and now i still get koeo 87 only nothing else.
so i did some wiring and added a switch to my pump to get my truck to run for now.
any ideas of what to do next i'm about to change the computer tomorrow maybe that will solve my problem.
