Hi everybody,
I am looking to add gauges, because more "oomph" is almost on order. I was wondering if anyone knows what are the normal operating ranges for oil pressure and fuel pressure. Where should the fuel pressure reading be taken from?
Also what is your opinion on mechanical vs. elctric gauges.
Thank You.
Harry
fuel pressure some where around 65 or so and specs i have for oil say 40-70 at 3300 rpm at normal operating temps.
i would prefer eletric guages. still accurate, easier to route lines, and if there is a failure you don't have oil or fuel spraying everywhere.
Excellent answer TJ. I'll bet that 64 Impala SS that I had in my younger years.....yes, I can still remember back that far.....still has that oil stain in the carpet where my Warn oil pressure gauge decided to start leaking.
Definatly go with the elecric gauges.
In your post.....you alluded to getting more ponies out of your truck. Have you given consideration to a pyro, boost, and maybe tranny temp. gauge to really monitor the 7.3?
gotta have gauges before you start making any serious power adds... electric is the way to go... i went with the dipricols from blackclouddiesel.com they are back lit green, like the stock gauges on my 02 sd, i did the pillar mount, which they painted to match, they look really good till it gets dark out, then you turn on the lights and they look AWESOME...! i got pyro, tranny temp, and 35lb boost gauges...
Thank You all for the responces. Now I know what to order. I bought my truck used and it came with a combination pyro/boost gauge, from Hypermax. After all the searching for that elusive oomph, mileage and reliability package, I have come to a combination I think I'd like. I shall order the gauges tomorrow and the package next month. I would like to do some driving and towing without any mods to get some baseline #s.
Thanks again.
