Along with all the starter and choke problems, I have a question about the ingnition switch. I need to know where it's supposed to sit. I know the little pin hole above the key is supposed to be facing straight up but the other part, that outer ring, that is divided into three, how can you tell which way it's supposed to go? The whole thing is loose and moves around so I need to get that adjusted. I just don't know which where it's supposed to be at. This is on a 79 f100.
Thanx!

Sounds like the retaining ring is loose. Just hold the centre part and turn the outer ring, it is the part with the three notches in it, until the whole switch doesnt turn when you turn the key.
Hope this makes sense.
Yeah it makes sense but I didn't know if it had to be a certain direction. I know the part with the pin hole goes up but I didn't know if it made a difference about the other part being in a certain spot. If it doesn't, then I'll get to it tomorrow and see what's it'll accomplish.
Thanx!

On the key lock cylinder you will see a hump <>with the key turned to the right(start position) that hump goes opposite the springs inside the switch the very end(rectangular nub) has to line up with the rectangular slot inside the switch.

if it's just loose, then put the key slot in the vertical position, then tighten that ring with the 3 notches, like a nut. the 3 notches don't have to lineup with anything when it's tight.
Ok, that'll help. I think I'm going to wind up replacing it. I'll pull it tmw if I can and see what's up becuz it's not working right and if it doesn't have to be lined up specifically on the inside then chances are the switch is bad. When you turn it to start, it works but when you release it to on, it looses connection at a certain spot. If you can get it to rest in a different spot, then it'll run but at that one spot, something's not making connection and it loses electrical power to the engine.
