I finally got off my sofa and started adjusting the valves. I did find some snuggies. Let's hope that's the reason it was running rough, with bad vacuum at low RPMs. As Strokster said "Sounds like it was laboring too hard". hey, there wasn't any valve ticking :-)
You guys think Big hP thoughts. I'll be putting the valve covers back on and checking it out soon.
I ready to get mine running. I got alot done last night. I just had to deal with the hurt ankle. But i am really feeling it and paying for it today.
I have one problem. When i do get it running how am i going to hold the clutch with my left foot and brake with my bum right foot. ???? OH hell no need for brakes they just slow you down.
She's back! WHat a friggin difference that made. One pump, one hit on the starter and she was running. Set the timing to about 18 initial after she had warmed up. I wish it was running like this when Strokster was over last Friday to help tune the carb.
The vacuum came up nicely to where it was before all the work. I got half a mind to go to test and tune night tonight. I think it will go 13s as it is on the street tires.
Looks like I'm going tonight. I think Strokster, aka Kevin, is gonna meet me there. And another buddy is going and bringing his girl's boys. Should be a fun night, and I should have plenty of photos/videos at the end of the night.
I just hooked up the A/F gauges again, this should give Kevin something to work with :-) I'll probaboly just run it on street tires tonight. Try to get a few more miles before I really stress the drive-train. I fear with some heated stickies and the new TC, I could put a lot more load shock on the drive-train.
You guys cross your fingers and think warm thoughts. I'm just hoping to get there and back. But, I feel like we are closer to 13s than ever before. Between the new TC and the shifter, I think I've fixed a few gremlins.
Sounds Great! Glad to hear you got it going good. Once you finish at the track, point the front toward Houston and you can help me get mine going. hey I've got a thought...I do have seven kids...maybe I should just tie a rope to the front of mine and make the kids pull me around...LOL.
What a night. We'll call it a success, in that I did manage to come home under my own power. We also posted the fastest trap speed yet at 98.3 mph (might hag got close to 99 on another time-slip I'll have to find).
Aside rom those to highlights, it was gremlin after gremlin after gremlin. Big thanks to Kevin (Strokster) and my buddy glenn for helping to keep the show on the road.
Best time of the night was a 14.35 at 98mph. once again, Kevin was riding with me. I think the extra weight helps :-)
now for the bad parts (gremlins), most due to me being a bonehead:
1. starter was very tempermental, working only when it felt like it it.
2. shifter cable came loose once, had to modify an old carb spring to make a clip
3. carrier bearing nut came off, giving kevin an exciting ride. I'd have tightended better if I knew he was gonna do a smokey burnout for you guys (which the camera-man missed, that would be me). We replaced the missing nut with a bolt/nut from my hitch. redneck engineering lives!
4. flex-alite fan controller doesn't like to work when it's hot. We biled over at the starting line noce, getting embarassingly told to get off the track. Go Figure! I've got a new one from flex-a-lite that is supposed to be a new revision. but, I have not put it in yet. Im' a bonehead.
5. tranny is losing fluid somewhere. we hope it's just a hose connection or something simple. I put in one quart, but that barely limped me home.
All that aside, the motor is obviously making some HP.
