i try to find a spot where i wont get dinged, if i was driving my 88 f-150 then i could care less but i don't care for dings and scratches all over my superduty!
I always find the closest spot (roam around for like 10minutes lol) and if its anlge parking spot, I just pull in front first. If its a perpendicular spot, I always back in....its much easier.
I'll cruise around looking for the 'safest' spot. Usually that's in the back of the lot, or on the end. I'll park 'nose-in', cause if somebody is gonna back into me while their trying to get out, they're gonna tangle with my hitch first.
I parked my Bronco, which had less than 30,000 miles on it and was cherry at the time, in the farthest spot at the mall next to an island.
When I came out, the lot had filled up and there were cars parked all the way out to it.
Sure enough, someone had left a deep scratch about 2 feet long down the side of it...
Moral of the story?
If you drive your vehicle, be prepared for dents, dings and scratches. If you have a show car or truck, don't drive it unless you're prepared for the possibility.
I just park at the back. Not for any reason because i dont really care after a few years i am going to get something new anyways. Well the reason i park at the back is because like at Wal-Mart people will ride around the parking lot for 15 minutes looking for the closet park possible.
Not me i just park in the back and use that 15 minutes to stand in line
