I know this has been discussed before to some extent, but I want to eliminate my vent windows. Has anyone had success with creating a window to fit the entire opening? How much would something like that cost?
Ouch. thats nuts. Got a phone number or a web address? I was thinking less than 700 for both windows, but if thats all I can find I reckon I'll suck it up...
Been there done that. The situation has been discussed but without a solution. I want a solution But I am probably pipe dreaming. I am gonna start calling places in the NYC metro area tomorrow and see if I can find a willing company to make one.
i don't remember there name right now. they had a both at a car show a few years back they specailize in chevy and ford doors. with shipping you are looking at close to 1,600 and thats if they didn't raise there price or went out of business.
Mil1ion, While readinthrough 20000 posts may be fun for some... I unfortunately dont have time for it.
Can you search the archives? I don't see a button allowing you to do that.
So does any one have any search tips for the archives. I have trouble using the regular search I haven't been able to find a list of expressions (with definitions) that can be used. I always find my self searching for: +1977 +seat +repair ....it doesn't seem to work if I type..... "1977 seat repair"
I find anything I want on google but here.... this is different.
my dad has been doing glass for about 25 years now and has done a few custom pieces. I am interested in this also and I will ask his about how much it would be and if it is doable. Someone remind me in a few days to post back the answer, I seem to forget stuff a lot.

I've helped my father who has been in the business for 43 years cut some custom glass for several things. So, I would have to say cutting some custom door glass will be very easy. Well...for the right person.
Just to show difficulty of this single (flat) door glass idea when compared to other custom auto glass projects lets look at curved windshields and back glasses. I've seen chopped top cars roll in at my father's shop on a flatbed that needed all glass cut to fit the new chopped top hotrod. It wasn't the glass in the doors that gave him any difficulty, It was the windshield. He had to cut a curved laminated glass down to fit the new opening. So, if the windshield can be done by a skilled craftsman, then flat laminated glass can be customized to fit the entire opening minus the wing vent.
The window regulator and new larger size glass may have interference and the relocation of the front window track will pose a problem to be solved. This is where experience comes in and the glass can be cut to avoid problems. Still, customizing (cutting) some glass (should be laminated) to fit the entire opening will be the easy part for a skilled craftsman.
Don't misunderstand me here. I am not saying that just any auto glass shop will be able to do what is needed. I am fairly certain most will turn you away. A well established old school glass shop will be needed to do this work with confidence. Using anything else may prove to be a huge headache. Just call around and see what you can find. Maybe you'll get lucky and locate an old school glass shop that is chomping at the bit to do the work.
The glass runs that make the window go up and down, would have to be extended, and I'm sure a glass co. or specialist, could cut a peice of glass to fit the window opening. Sounds like a good idea, let us know what you end up doing for how much $?
