hey guys : got a problem here. fuel pump doesn't work unless hotwired from inertia switch.their is power to fuse at the box inside the engine compartment. whats between the inertia switch and fuse box underneath the hood ?!. is their a relay and where is it at.anybody else had this problem??? the vehicle is a bronco 11. 2 wheel drive automatic.2.9 V-6 ,fuel injected overmatic overdrive, u4al. think that's it. appreciate the help all. wasn't sure if i should post it here or in electrical.seems to work in both...again, thanks.....joezee
The pump should only run for two seconds once the key is turned on. When the computer senses the motor is running, it will allow power to the pump. You could connect a pressure regulator on the rail and see if you are getting pressure or listen to the pump while a friend turns the key on. Not to start, just on.
The relay for an 86 is green and is on the passenger side wall inside the engine.
thanks gatorman for getting back to me.you said you had a problem with this on a 85.this one is an 89 fuel injected. was told this was different. any other suggestions ??? joezee
No, mine is an 86 fuel injected. Yes, 85's did have a carb. Mine is a high pressure system. I have two pumps, you may only have one, but I believe they sitll only run for two seconds when the key is turned on until the computer senses the truck is running.
You should still have a valve that looks like an air nipple, like on your tires, off the rail where you can attach a fuel pressure guage.
the fuel pump has several things that could keep it from working, 1st it starts with a seal in line fuse off of the seloniod, then it goes to a relay, then the initertia switch then the pump. on my truck the relays kept going out and i just installed a toggle switch inside the cab on the dash as a replacement, some addition wire was needed to do that. but i would check out the relay first...
