Yesterday, I had to press real hard on the brakes. As I held the brakes down, I noticed air hissing sound coming from the brake pedal. I tried a couple of time on pressing hard on the brakes and it continued to hiss. The brakes do work, but was wondering if this is normal.
mechanics inout only
i'm not super up on the psd system . but to me it's something that needs to be checked . it may be the brake booster leaking as you stated i had to push real hard to stop. a hiss when pushing down and hard pedal is most of the time a booster problem.
please play safe and have it checked out.
power brakes use vacuum to assist the application.it sounds to me like you need a new brake booster, the larger part that your brake master cyl. bolts to. Since vacuum is really air pressure in reverse, it makes very similar sounds when leaking. good luck Phil
it's a diesel,so there is no vacuum is right. but that is why Ford, at least up to my old '90 has a vacuum pump below the alt, to generate vacuum. don't know if Ford has gone over to the Chevy way of using hyd. booster now or not Phil
