well guys i have a question for yall ford experts or people that just know fords well guys here it is the ol truck wont start i dont really no what the problem is i think it is the cyliniod or something like that well it just is clickin evertime i try to start the truck it just clicks doesnt try to turn over or anything what other problems could it be i think it might also be the starter but we had it tested a couple weeks ago and they said it was good but i dont no what else to do to it well that was my question guys help me out please.
Well i have been chargin my battery and still nothing i have been chargin it for about an hour so i dont no if that is it so im still wondering about this could it be that the Solenoid is bad since the only thing it is doin is clicking? Thanx
[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-Dec-02 AT 04:37 PM (EST)] Very well could be the solenoid.
But first hook a jumper cable to the battery + and then touch the other end to the rear large terminal of the solenoid. If the starter turns the solenoid is dead.
If it still doesnt turn...unhook the jumper cable from the battery. Then connect it to the terminal directly on the starter, make sure it doesnt touch any metal. Then touch the jumper cable to the battery +. If the starter turns then the cable from the solenoid to the starter is bad.
If it still doesnt turn remove the jumper cable. Then hook the jumper cable to a good metal spot on the starter. Then hook the other end to the battery -, not the battery +. Then try to start the truck. If it turns over there is no ground on the starter, so remove it and clean the mounting area, reinstall it and see if the problem is fixed.
Hope helps to this fix the problem. Let us know.

ps
If the battery is no good all these tests are useless. Have to have a known good battery first.
Also make sure the battery connections are good and clean. I've seen where people have put grease on the terminals before they put on the cables and the grease dries to a hard insulator. You want a good metal to metal connection at the terminals. For some reason the positive seems to be the most susceptible to this.

Check the connections at both sides of the solenoid too. Not likely a problem, but I've fixed a few that way too. If you have a lot of resistance at these or any of the connections, you might still get the clicking, but not enough power to crank. Also check your battery ground connection on the block itself. People sometimes ignore this connection, but it's often responsible for a lot of headaches.
