**** my old 70 F100 with a 390 could tow anything a V10 will and just as fast as well and still get that kind of mileage, with out overdrive. And do it on 87 octane gas.
Oh yeah? Well my Dad can beat up your Dad. So there. sheesh.
Like all have said that salesmen obviously has his head up hi A**. The V10 is by far one Fords best motors made. I'll just challenge you to list the bad things about the V10. I garentee us guys here in the forum can make a list 8 times as long about problems with the 351. the 351 wasn't a bad motor but with 50 years under its belt it was obviously time for retirement.
Lets just think about this the V10 has more HP, has far more Torque, this is contaversial but with the same maintenence and driving the V10 will outlast a 351 in longevity. It also burns cleaner, gets the same mileage (don't argue this as I've already owned a 302 that only got 2mpg better than my V10). The V10 also better ballence and runs smother, I'm not sure why I'm comparing the two, it's like comparing the Model T to a Ferrari.
So go a head tell all of us why the 351 is better than the V10 and why the V10 is such a pile of Sh**. You obviously know more than all of us guys that actually own V10s. and by the way he I'm bettin he doesn;t sell them, I surly would buy a vehicle from someone that doesn't know there head from there ars.
Guys, don't even bother answering this guy. Waste of your time. He is on a V-10 forum and doesn't even own one. That should tell you something. He is a wannabe V-10 owner. Since he can't afford one, he is trying to take it out on us. Just remember, when we turn the key and hear that sweet V-10 sound, he is in front of his computer dreaming about it.
Come on now, do the math correctly. 50 years? You've missed it by 14. It's been 36 years since the 351W came out in 69. And how would you know the V10 will outlast any other motor? It hasn't been around that long yet. Don't get your drawers in a wad. And what were those problems with the 351? Aside from two spark plug changes, oil changes twice a year, and a couple sets of plug wires, after 150,000 miles, my 351W hasn't been apart. And still runs like new. The only other parts I've changed on it were the smog pump and the idler pulley. So far you haven't proved to me that a V10 can do anything better than a 50's tech 390 could do, other than (possibly) better emissions. The fuel mileage isn't there for damn sure.

Wanna be? Not hardly, from what I've heard so far. And yea, I CAN afford one From what I've heard, the IDEAL ruck for pulling nowadays would be an F350 with a transplanted Cummins diesel. ( you listening Ford? )
I've yet to find a Ford salesman that would try to sell me a new super duty with anything but a PSD in it. But when pressed about it, the owner of the nearest dealership told to me that they have only had to rebuild or replace one V10...ever. Now this is a good sized dealership - usually 20+ sd's in stock and a pretty quick turnover. Of course of those 20, there's prob'ly an average of a couple of V10's and a couple of 5.4's - but that still adds up to quite a few since '99...
As far as the 351's go, I've owned 4, 2 carb's and 2 injected, and the first vehicle I drove regularly was a 390, and all I can say is that I wouldn't trade my V10 for all 5 of 'em. They were all good trucks, all pulled big trailers regularly (none of them exceptionally well) and were at anywhere from 110K to 220K and still going strong when I sold 'em, but none of them would come close to pulling with the V10.
My gawd, Y'all sound like a buncha wounded ducks. You'd think that Ford's V10 was the best thing since sliced bread. And what an intellligent comeback, skipperw Athens must be proud of you.
I sound like a genius compared to what you are posting up. Don't you realize that you are making a fool out of yourself? I guess not, that would show that you had some common sense.
I'm not the one trying to defend an engine that has done nothing better than what it was intended to replace. You sure haven't sold me yet. If you think I come off sounding like a fool, then you've got a lot of growing up to do yet.
I'm confused. You have been a member here on the board for a while and from reading some of your previous posts you seem to hang out mostly in the small block V8 section. You seem to be very knowledgable with V8 engines and appear to post positively and helpfull there.
Why are you here in the V10 forum flaming an engine that you seem to be very ignorant too. I would not take the word of a salesman on anything. If you would like to learn abouth the V10 this is a good source to come too. Everyone here will tell you the good and the bad.
Don't let ignorance be your guide. Learn what you know and know what you learn.
I'm not flaming anything, simply pointing out that the V10 isn't the "end-all' as far as being the ultimate-top of the line Ford gas motor for trucks. Look at the specs. 355 hp and 455 ft/lbs torque. WOW, I'm sold. A well built 390 will equal that and get the same mileage without overdrive, WITH a carb. Like I said first off, I've heard there's been problems with em, but everyone here seem to be trying to hide that fact. As far as I'm concerned Ford made a huge mistake with the switch to the mod motors. The 06 Stang I just ordered will have one, I just hope it holds up better than some of the ones I've heard about, otherwise it WILL get a pushrod V8 replacing it in the engine bay.
