I know this ain't gonna help, but the other day I was at the local Ford dealer, ordering my new 06 Stang. The salesman told me this when we got into a discussion about the V10's, "don't buy one, they're junk" after reading all this, I think he's onto something. Hope you do get it straightened out though.

Trying to insinuate all the Ford V10 engines are junk? Junk compared to what? The 6.0L PSD or an oil burning GM 8.1L or a gutles 5.7L Hemi in a Ram 2500??? I wouldn't buy anything from a salesman that said that. He's an obvious idiot. Most of the Ford salesmen I've ran into know next to nothing about pickups & are brainwashed by their sales manager/Ford marketing into thinking a diesel is God's gift to truck buyers. They make more profit off of PSDs-that's why the V10 is "junk". Same deal at Chevy/GMc and Dodge.
Mine's the best engine I've ever had in a pickup. It's the first time in my ownership of 5 newly bought pickups that has had absolutely no engine or drivetrain problems in the first 30000 miles. I can say this with absolute confidence in my opinion because I honestly think I know more about the truck than 90% of the salesmen and more about it's real-world capabilities and operation than most of the Ford mechanics.
Keeping silent in this thread because I don't pretend to be a technical expert but from the sound of the original poster's problems I doubt his trouble is even engine related. Sounds like a computer/electronics glitch or possibly some sort of tranny trouble.
i think you would be on drugs to think the v-10 or any other modular engine is junk. the failure rate of these engines is minimal compared to the dodge 5.7 or the chevy 8.1 mod engines have very few problems and last a long time. just look at how many v-10s have been made and are used in everything from huge rv's to tow trucks and in emergency vehicles. show me a 5.7 hemi or 8.1 in a tow truck or a emergency vehicle.

tell that sales man he has no idea of what he's talking about. these v10's are all awsome and the newest 3 valve is amazing. gets the same mpg's as a 5.4,
i don't have any hemi nut's trying to race me any more, as the ones around me have all been wooped on big time. and now are chickens around v10's
when i orderd mine i went right though the owner and he delivered it also, his words where when i took it to fill the gas tank, i gave it a fast run.o-my g-d does that animal run. to date he's sold 10 more v10's and mine was his first 05 v10 back in feb. his words are no one is disapointed yet.

You actually listen to what car salesmen have to say??

I agree with this 100%. I would look to the tranny. Here's why...

Calulated RPMs at those speeds should be around 2700 rpm. Sounds like the tranny rebuild didn't go too well or, as Fred stated, the wrong fluid was used.

++++++++++++++++++++I agree with Monsta. But in your case, go ahead and take his advice. That way, it will stop you from owning a sweet a** engine and you can justify it to yourself.
You mean to tell me that the computer won't know the cat is gone?! I assume you leave all the O2's?
As far as a diagnostics or good "tech" . . . I'm in Cheyenne, WY, not a lot to choose from. I called evary big shop in town, including the Ford dealer, and all of them seemed to want to know "Any warning lights come on?". [/I][/B]Just hook it up and shut up!
Frustrationg. Going out again this weekend with the same camper/ATV load combo. I'll see what happens.
You said that you had a ’99 model – right? No, the computer will never know that the cat is gone.
I’m not suggesting you cut off, though – oh, no – I would not propose such a thing….
And the reason you want to hook it up to a WDS is because there is something wrong and you have no SES light. Those guys do sound a little dingy…

Thanks guys' but no thanks, I'll keep my 10 year old roller 351W. As for a powerstroke? You can buy a LOT of gas for $5000. Take about 350,000 miles to make up that difference.

Wearing a tag that says "I R salesman" doesn't mean poop when you hear someone say something that assinine. Salesmen are hardly ever rocket scientists I've found, after being a salesman all my life. In fact, no, I won't say it, I am proud of my days in the car dealerships. I worked hard, was responsible and honest. I would have asked this guy for the phone number of another Ford dealership as a comment like that would give me serious doubts on their ability to service ANY vehicle I was buying. After I found another place to spend my money, I would have sidled up to him real cozy and tight like, you know, an inch away from his face (it helps to be 6' 5" and 250 like I am here) and whispered something uplifting and positive, so he wouldn't make the mistake of possibly saying anything like that again, at least not to me. THAT would have really got under my skin, especially since it's so far from the truth. Ken

OK!?
Let's see a show of hands.
Who would rather have a roller 351W or
a 05 3V V10 Triton?
ok, just got off the phone with one of my cousins, who own a huge automotive repair shop in So Cal. Big time FORD nut also. I asked him about the lack of power and the detonation some of us are experiencing... he said the only thing that would cause that is lack of fuel pressure. Either a dirty fuel filter or the pump is going south (more for a high mileage vehicle). He also said, this is a well known issue with the V10s only. Fuel pressure needs to be to spec. and nothing less. I am getting a new fuel filter tonite and will see if I can borrow a fuel pressure gauge from someone to check that. If anything, it's a place to start. My cousin said those V10s should never ping even with 87 gas. And if the anti-knock sensor was totally malfunctioning, I'd see the code for it in the PCM.

My hands up, I'd take any V10 over a 351W, even a detuned 99'!!! I sometimes swear I can smell a troll but just cann't put my hands on it.
No, no troll here. But I've heard very little good about the V10, nothing better than a good old pushrod motor can't do. And that saleman had nothing to hide. Why would he lie about it? HE SELLS them. And he's got to listen to the customer's feedback when they're not satisfied. 10 MPG? What's good about that? **** my old 70 F100 with a 390 could tow anything a V10 will and just as fast as well and still get that kind of mileage, with out overdrive. And do it on 87 octane gas.
