Im doing pretty much a full resto on a 77/74 ford f250/150 4x4
for the bumpers i plan to make large winch bumpers out of half inch mild steel now even i think that is almost a little excessive but after bending the **** out of my last bumper and winch which was 1/4 inch i want tough
basicall i can get 1/4 x 4x8 sheet for 50 dollars less than i can get half
so may as well do it i have way over 1 ton leafs and am gonna probably lift it 8 inches anyhow and put a 15000lb winch on it so what are the thoughts, i have the tools and the help to assemble is it really too much to go half inch?
i understand its gonna probably have to be welded to the frame and bolted
what are the thoughts there also
1/2" isn't to big if you bent some 1/4" and now your going to go with bigger winch tires and lift, If you get stuck with that much more weight and that much more of a bind, the 1/2 isn't to small.
You'll want to put a couple bolts through the frame, and welding wouldn't be a bad idea, if you want that bumper on for a while, changing it would require cutting it off.
