I searched the forum, and all I got was for the rear speakers. What I'm wanting to know is how to properly, and safely, remove the dash, to get the the front speakers in my wife's 91 XL. In the Chilton's, it says the 90-91's should have simple, removable speaker grills, but prior to that, the entire upper dash assembly has to come out - but doesn't give actual directions...well, on her 91, the dash is a solid piece - it does not have seperate grills for the speakers.
For MY safety (my wife will kill me if I fold, spindle or mutilute any part of her dash), HOW do I disassemble the dash properly to get at these speakers?
OK, I got the dash apart, with little to no trouble...however, what I did was mount a set of inexpensive Pioneer 4" speakers in the dash. Obviously, this is smaller than the factory 5" 3-holer....
So, what I did was dremel down the speaker basket on the OEM speaker, and made a make-shift speaker plate from it. However, it didn't seal well around the new speaker. I didn't seal it with anything, either - just threw it in the dash...
Now, it has a really cheap, tinny sound, with a light buzzing...
I installed a pair of bass-blocking capicitors on the + leads of the speakers...
Any ideas? SHould I seal the speakers tot he plates? SOund I use the make shift plates as a template, and fab up some proper plates from either wood of light gauge sheet metal?
Please, feedback asap on this...it's the wife's van, and you all know how wives can be...
Go find some slightly better speakers that fit into the opening. The buzzing means the speakers are not up to the power output of stereo. I am not a big fan of loud thumping stereos, but speakers cabable of delivering some powerful sound generally sound better than stock speakers at all volume levels.
