Has anyone esle been irritated with this??? I'm 6'4" and I can barely reach into and grab anything in the bed standing beside the truck. Towing the boat isn't problem till you need to back the trailer down the ramp. I've had to make cords to half lower the tailgate so I can see the trailer. The winch stand on my trailer it too close the tailgate if I drop it all the way..
What was Ford thinking when they deepened/raised the beds on these trucks???
It's all in the numbers. Most people don't care about how much they really haul, it's what the can haul. So the more theoretical capacity, the better they think it is.
its hard to get stuff but it looks pretty cool from the outside. the deep bead with squared front gives the cab area a chopped look. plus less stuff flies away when im hauling lighter cargo.
We were not too happy at first, my wife is 5'10'' and thin, but she had problems snagging the stuff from the bottom of the bed, up near the cab.
I solved it after we added the tonneau, by putting a bed mat in it, (raised the bed two inches,) putting a cargo bar behind the wheel humps( set low, it stops loose cans etc. from rolling up to the front) and finally by putting a 'milk crate' really a cheap knockoff that we keep small stuff in.
It's just behind the cab, and so the stuff is about four inches higher, between the mat and the bottom of the light plastic crate, plus you can catch the top of the crate and lift it out to grab things. It's secured by a chord to the front tie down, and in 7000 miles, it hasn't moved.
We are both quite satisfied with it.
And when I have needed to carry tall things, new Big trash cans, my Tracker top, I have been able to close my tonneau over them. Shallow bed I couldn't do that.

Give me a break....the bed is way to deep, too tall, you can't get anything out of it without a boat hook and because of it the truck looks slab sided... It's nothing buts yard of flat sheet metal The best looking truck Ford ever built was the 77 250 High Boy..or the 78-79 150's...
I always use my tailgate so that I dont scratch the side of the truck, I have had trucks in the past where my bib strap buckles did a heck of a number on the sides. I don't think it's the side of the bed that is so high it is the truck itself, even with my tailgate down it's a tall step to get in the back.
Though most of the time when I have to get in the back I have to drop the tailgate to get what I want out anyway, like birddogs or lumber.
right there with ya on the 78-79's dunk. There is a beautiful green an white one 4-sale on my way to work. too bad i'm allready making payments.
I have the same feelings on the bed guys. I'm 6'2" and the bed rail cuts into my armpit whenever I reach in. I really feel sorry for you guys with 4 & 6" lifts, ya'll have to climb into the bed for everything.
Birdhunter. I recently discovered that my 4x4 flairside has plastic side pannels on the bed. Rather disappointing. I was expecting Ford tough even there. As for the height of the box it is very high. I can barely step into the back on my flairside. I did see a step that goes on the hitch that looked like it would help.

Try being 5'6"! I can stand beside my bed (4X4) and the top of the bed comes up exactly to my neck. It has forced me to learn how to back up with the outside mirrors. I have a good friend who is in the market to replace his 99 GMC but he won't buy the Ford due to the high bed and height of the bed floor from the ground. It is to tall for him to load his motorcycle. He is going to wait on the next generation of GM trucks and hope they don't "mess" them up for him.
Has Ford lost sales because off the deep box One salesman told me the truck is by far the best truck on the market except for the high bed an he sells both GM an Ford trucks in the same lot. He said hes lost several sales due to the the deep bed. Went with the GMC. He says the interior an quietness off the 150 blows away GM trucks. The only deterrent is the deep bed. Like anything it takes awhile to get used to.
