Anyone have any tried and true methods for getting the rearview mirror to STAY glued to the inside of the windshield? Those kits from the auto parts stores just aren't working. Should I use Gorilla Glue or what?: -roll My truck is a '76 F250 4X4.
I have never had a problem with it either- maybe a bad batch of glue. I also always clean the spot and metal piece with that crappy clorinated brake cleaner. That stuff sucks for everything else, but seems to do good for this.
Ive had the same problem...2....the mirror now resides in the truck box behind the seat....the main thing is to insure the surface area is CLEAN...lectromotive or some electrical spray cleaner works pretty good...cleans good, wont leave a residue...
I am so glad to hear someone else has this problem. About once a year I find my mirror lying on top of my dash.I just keep buying more of those little glue kits.
I've had the same thing happen before to me. I spent a bunch of time preping the glass and mirror to make sure everything would work -and sure enough first adjustment I tried to make, it came down. Two years+ later the glue marks are still on my windshield as a reminder. I just depend on my side mirrors now and a healthy glance. I can't stand those SUV jerks riding my A$$ anyway- out of sight, out of mind.
I don't know what kind of glue was on mine but when it fell off the glass came with it. I have a hole half-way through the windshield where it was. I haven't attempted to put it back on.
Yeap, those glue kits from the auto parts stores seem to be good for only a year and a half. My wifes mini van has the same problem. On my truck however, someone glued the mirror with silicone. I have had the truck for not quite a year but the mirror seems to be suck in place. Maybe I'll try in on the mini van next time around. After all, they use the stuff to hold aquariums together.
