Hey. I'm a first-time poster in this forum and would like some input from 6.0L owners.
I did a used vehicle inspection on this truck today at the Chevy dealership I work for and fell in love with it....it's one of the trade ins. '04 CC shortbox (unfortunately not LB, but oh well). Auto, 4x4, 23,100 miles, Lariat pkg.
This thing is in pristine condition and I want to know whether or not I should do it. I'm selling my monster truck and figure that I still need a real truck that I won't modify at all and that I can actually use.
My price (employee cost) is going to be roughly $26,500. NADA retail is $34K-$38K. It's a VERY tough decision.
Am I going to have head gasket problems, injector problems, or turbo problems being that it's an 04? I don't plan on hauling more than a 2-horse trailer or a motorcycle in the bed (which is why I wanted a longbox), but the price is almost too good to pass up.
I'd go for it. I've had relatively minor problems with mine. NO injector problems, NO tranny problems. I had a coolant problem that was because of a warped head, but it's been fixed under warranty and it's fine. I'd check the OASIS report and make sure that you won't have any problems getting warranty (100K on the motor--36K on the rest of the truck) or that something else stupid is wrong. I love mine and wouldn't trade it for anything.
will they let you take it home one night so you get a hour or more of heat into it and see if it's goodie or not.yes get a oasis report done on it and see what open recalls and work have been done. price sounds ok. good luck it's a good horse
This 'oasis' report; is there a way to do it online or do I have to go to the Ford dealer to get it? If it's anything like GM's 'VIS', then it's a dealer-only thing. I guess it doesn't matter, I don't know the VIN right off hand anyways.
I guess the first thing I need to do tomorrow is call the insurance company and see what I'm going to get bent over for an insurance premium on it.
Thanks for the replies. I suppose if I can't afford it, I can easily sell it for what I bought it for and get out from underneath it....
You can do an Oasis online, but I can't remember the site and I lost my bookmark to it a few months ago. Try and search for Oasis.
That truck is cheap - you should get it if the Oasis checks out. I've got 54k miles on my '04 6.0 and it's never had a serious issue and runs like a champ. I like this truck much more than my 7.3.
If I could have found an 04 at that price I would have been on it like white on rice. I would still research whatever history you can find on the truck and/or call the original owner.
What do you mean 'since it's an 04'? Head gasket prollems? No, it's not a GM. Just kidding!!!
I have an 05/04/04 built engine/truck. Not one problem with it. Never been back to the dealer for a service issue.
There are plenty of people with issues. Those for the most part are the vocal ones. (From all three auto manufactures.) Those that are happy, (thousands), are just busy grinning from ear to ear while they've got the throttle pedal mashed to the floor.
Sounds like a great deal on that truck. Buy it, And proudly drive it to work! Before hand, like others have said, get the history on it from the Ford Oasis report. That way you'll know if it's been in for a lot of service.

At that price I would definitly buy it. Unless there is something horribly wrong with the truck. I bought a 2003 reg cab 7.3 with 17,000 miles an paid more then what they want for that truck. Its only a reg cab. Get that Oasis immediatly. Hey if you can take some pics off the truck Id sure like to see it. If it catches your eye I bet it warrants a look. Good Luck. You shouldnt lose to much value even if you put another 40,000 miles and drive it 4 more years. You cant lose. Dealers would laugh you out the door around here if you offered then that low off money for that truck.
> test drive it for 20...30 minutes and if you dont notice any problems with it, its good to go.<
I'd test drive it for the weekend -- now that would be a reasonable test time period. With the problems Ford has been having, this would not be an unreasonable request -- and of course, it would be great if you could get the name of the former owner. Did the dealership offer to show you the maintenance record on the truck, if the the truck was sold from them? Keep in mind credibility on the part of the dealership.

Cleatus-you do realize that's about $20,000 off the price of what that truck cost only ONE year ago?!?!?! Insanity!!! If some guy traded it in for $25k tho...I would think there was something wrong with his head or the truck. I would find out which one it is, and jump on it if the truck checks out!
