Hello to all. I picked up a 1970 F250 with a 360 2-bbl.. The body is straight and the paint is good..It has a main bearing knock/noise and i was going to replace the engine. I have been told a 390 is the way to go from friends. are all the accesories interchangeble? If i go with the 390 should i use an after market manifold w/4bbl carb or will the 360 intake and 2bbl card fit on the 390..Suggestions? Thank You
The 360 and 390 are externally identicle. Most 390 truck engines came through with the same intake and 2BBL as the 360. If you can find a 390 in the junyard, all the internals will swap right into your block.
While the 360 is a good motor I prefer the 390. If you can get the 390 go for it as you will have a little more power and just maybe a little better fuel milage. All at no extra cost and a better results.
The 360 is a detuned 390 to start with. A 390 bore block with a 352 stroke crank. In real time, if you put a 390 crank, rods & pistons in your 360 engine, you will now have a 390. That is the only difference, everything else is the same. I would buy the crank & rods, and build the engine back as a 390.
Recommending cams, intakes & cards is a whole nother day, and whether you benifet from the extra money spent, is questionable.

And at that, the 390 truck motor is a detuned car version. The 360 pistons were used in the car line and increase the compression nicely, bringing your truck up to car specs...
390 it is! Thank you all for all you inputs. You all have been very helplful and this is obviously a great site with lots of good folks! Thanks again and It looks like i'll be under the hood for a couple weekends gittin-r-done.
Nothing like firing up a rebuilt 390 for the first time! I put an Edlebrock intake, mostly just to get a way from the heavy weight stocker and also because I got a good deal on it. May some day install a RV cam.
I checked on a edelbrock preformer intake with a holley 600cfm with headers....another 800 bucks plus all the craftyness involved in making the throttle and trans linkages to fit and work correctly...I think all stock for now...maybe later...of course its a lot easier with the engine sittin on a stand...hmmmmmmmmm

Don`t recall any problems with the linkage, used a Holley 750 with vac secondaries on the Edlebrock intake. Needed to use a spacer under the carb for clearance over the Edelbrock because of the high runners. Had a hard time to find one but finally did come up with plastic one.
