I'm planning to get some Edelbrock shorty headers for my 351W, but i have a few questions first. I noticed the options include with or without A.I.R. and if i'm not mistaken that the fresh air injection system, but i'm confused because the air is injected into the back of the heads, not the exhaust manifold. I did an engine swap a while back, so I'm using stock 302 manifolds right now and they don't have any holes in them, but i think the stock manifolds for a 351 have an EGR fitting on them, since the EGR routing is different on the 302 and the 351. I'm not interested in using EGR and I have the system disabled right now, so i want to make sure my headers don't come with an EGR hook-up either.
get the ones with out A.I.R and even if it does come with the egr fitting on the end you can just get a cap to block it off. the headers usually need to me CARB standards so they must build in such things. doesnt mean you have to use that though.
What's CARB standards? Just for my curiosity I'd like to know a little bit more about the different A.I.R. systems. Did they make a system where the air was injected directly into the manifolds? And what does A.I.R. stand for again? Air Injection R.... I know they used it to help further oxidize combustion products to reduce emissions and heat the oxygen sensor at the same time. I got the basic idea, I'd just like to know more details about the design and function. If I remove the Thermactor pump and all that crap, am I going to have any performance problems? (Other than a few driveability issues during warm-up)

You need to have the thermactor pump in order to run cats in the exhaust. It helps the cats work and if there isn't oxygen pumped into the exhaust before the cat, the cats will fail.
CARB...California Air Resourses Board...the standard by which all others are to be judged. (My apologies to the rest of the country. I live here, but I didn't do it!) -TD
