The emissions light on the dash of my 86 F-150, 302, is lit. Code reader gave me a 122 (throttle position sensor voltage too low) I hooked up a volt meter and it reads .92 volts and when I push down the accellerator it goes up but comes back down to 1 volt with accellerator held down. Should I tyry to adjust the TPS to proper voltage or just replace it? Also, I adjusted the idle a couple of times before I found out you are not supposed to adjust it. Does adjusting the idle cause a problem with the TPS?? My dash light did not come on for several weeks after I adjusted the idle. The truck runs fine, just has a light on the dash.
That light is just a reminder light. In your owner's manual there is a way to reset it. It comes on every once in a while as a reminder to check over your emissions equipment. It was was just convenient that you had a code stored in your memory at the same time.

Anyway, you're saying the emissions light is just a reminder to check emissions equipment and doesn't work as a check engine light to signal that there are codes? Do these trucks have a check engine light anywhere?

"emission" light says that its time to check out emissions system. Doesn't mean a fault of any kind. Pulling the bulb works I guess. But you actually suppose to reset the module. The module is under the dash, just to the left of steering column. Once you find it, it should have a hole in the side with a sticker that says"reset" (sticker may have fallen off). Find something that fits in the hole. While the reset button is depressed turn ignition to run, wait 5 sec.'s, then release reset. Should have done it.

HA! That was about 3 minutes after I woke up. Then I had to go to work.
There is not a check engine light on these trucks. I don't think the light comes on the trucks until 87 or 88.
You will just have to check the codes when you think something is wrong or (like I did) every oil change.
