it looks like its just excessive wear thats my problem
any thoughts/ideas thanks
You need to replace the caliper mount. Welding and grinding isn't a very good idea on something that important. It's probably not a good idea to drive it until it's fixed - you could loose the caliper completely or it could get wedged into the rim and cause a wreck... Check with local yards, classifieds on this site and Jeffs Bronco Graveyard - I'm sure one of these will get you one. If the caliper has been grinding on the rim for a while, you may want to replace it too, can never be too carefull with brakes...
the bracket is probably 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch worn out
so when the caliper is in and all bolted up it has at least a 1/4 inch of play, hit the brakes hard and the slider and spring fall out allowing the caliper to float in the bracket doing more damage to the bracket and grinding on the inner o the rim
I believe there is a shim kit offered for this. I had the same thing happen to an old F250 I had and if I had not had 10 inch wide rims the caliper would have come completely off leaving me with no front brakes.
Back to the mounting kit. My buddy use to work on fleet trucks and I am pretty sure he is the one that told me about the shim kits. If I recall he brought home some extra pieces for me to repait my truck. They may even be in the garage some where sitting. Check with a parts store and even more so with one that deals with trucks and I bet you can find the correct repair kit instead of welding.
If you are not a welder by trade then don't try welding to cast iron. This is not something you just fire up a mig welder and weld. Cast iron has to be heated red hot before you can weld it.
