My 2 year old son decided to flush my only set of X keys down the toliet. How do I get a new set and what is involved? Can I just take the key code to the dealer and get a new set tomorrow? I hope it is that easy.
You shouyld be able to either bring your VIN # to the dealer or your key code and they will be able to make you a new set...It will cost about 125.00 for each key as they have the computer chip in them...

Your kid did what?!?
If I had a choice, I would have taken a kick in the nads as opposed to that! I would have been down for an hour with an ice pack, but it wouldn't cost me damn near $200. Ah well kids, ya gotta love 'em.
Anyhow, I'm with Big Rig on this, they should be able to pull it the proper codes to make a new key for you. I suggest going to ebaymotors, buying a key there, getting it cut at Wal-mart, and having a dealer program it. It'll save you a few bucks, but if you're in a hurry, you're S.O.L.

Buying the key alone does get it running the Ford dealer has to program the keys (a minimum of 2 ) to program. after that you can put up to 6 more yourself but you have to have two first..... So I've learned from Ex perence...
Well, the dealer said that I have to get my X towed to the dealer so they can use their computer program. I found a locksmith that has the programmable keys and equipment to complete the task onsite for two keys for $225.00. Anyway ladies and gents, I guess I have to say that take care of those keys as if they were a glass of water in a desert!
Just a quick little advice after you get the work done,I do what Toreador suggest go to e bay and get a couple of keys have them cut and you can program them in with the to new keys Yourself ... (does'nt hurt to have another set or two) I cant find mine half of the time without the kids loosing them .......
**You must have two original keys to perform this procedure. If you only have one key, you WILL have to take it to the dealer to get it programmed**
1. Insert and existing (working) key into the ignition cylinder.
2. Turn the ignition cylinder ON (RUN) and back to OFF. Ignition should stay on for at least ONE SECOND.
3. Remove the existing key and, within TEN seconds, insert a second working key and turn it to ON (RUN) and the back OFF. Ignition must be in ON for at least ONE second, but no more than TEN seconds. Remove the key.
4. Insert the new key before TWENTY seconds have elapsed and turn it to ON (RUN). Leave it the ON position for at least ONE second and turn back to OFF.
5. The security light will light up for THREE seconds to indicate that the new key has been successfully programmed.
6. To program additional keys, repeat steps 1 through 5
Thanks, I just ordered two keys on ebay, less that $20 for two of them, shipped. I have the two that I got when I bought it, now I'll have a couple spares!
