Oh I understand very well. But after a deer and I had a major confrontation in '94 I don't have the physical stamina or function to ride 2 wheeled bikes anymore, almost dying will do that to you. So now I rib Harley rider, well I used to rib them when I rode them too, but that's another story.

Excellent point. And........... NO.
I have owned many bikes by many manufactures. My last was a 78' xlch. Raked and extended. Looked like a minature low rider. Two reasons it's gone - 1) the wife got tired of being ran off the rode by 4 wheeled vehicles. 2) It sat more than I rode her, due to, I didn't make enough to keep her running long enough to enjoy it before it would break down again.
I still find myself turning my head by instinct when I hear one coming. My wife agreed to let me buy another.... after the girls get out of the house and I get larger life insurance policy. Sounded good to me.
Anyway wether it be a Harley or a Harley (want to be) import. I will be on two wheels again. Which should be all that matters.
Does anyone really dislike their best friends wife because she has dark hair and not blonde. At least her name isn't Bob. Get it?

xfordman,
no offense taken everythings cool, any brand that has two wheels and enjoys scooters is ok with me. Around 6 or 7 years ago I got a group of BMW riders together, all bikes in the mid 70's era to ride to Hollister. On the way down we saw alot of oil, farther up the road a group of Harley riders were lifting a broken bike into a chebby pickup, we couldn't resist, all went beep beep. They showed us that they were still number one with the middle finger, yea there lifting and we were riding. In town a couple of "walking grease rags" were talking snot about Beemers until this 6' 8" giant told them he had a 60's BMW that ran trouble free forever and told them to shut up. He didn't know I was behind him, thanked him with a few beers as we enjoyed bike watching.

What's a cheap BMW? a Honda...

Sorry, '89 NX650 Honda enduro (Dominator, if that means anything to anyone from Oz...)...

It was a little much to go from the $3500 for the Honda to the BMW enduro - more like three times as much at the time, in '89.

I ride a Yamaha V-Star. It's a Harley knockoff. There's a bunch of us that ride around here. I can beat just about every Harley. My bike is smoother and it costs about 1/3 what a Harley cost. All the good looking Women are on the Harley's....wish I had one....LOL.

Leaving town the truck leaned out and died four times, cranked 8 seconds go a mile then repeat on the fifth time starter goes click no spin. A hour later after cool down same results, click only and all I have is a Craftman's 3/8" socket set, extension, screwdriver, 7/16" box for headers, 10" Cressent and a screwdriver. Remove the headers and starter which took 25 minutes, got a ride to town by a local who's a die hard Ford owner age 76, $43 later have a Napa starter then install. Pull spin-on pump filter, clean no dirt or water. Crank, start run 5 miles lean then die repeat. This time pull the fuel pump on the side of the highway which is a Carter pump that you can take apart, diaphragm like new no rupture. Found one of the check valves which has a body like a 3/4" diameter freeze plug loose and out of it's counter bore pocket that wasn't staked in from manufacture. WTF and this pump was installed 85K miles ago. Enlarged the valve OD lip, installed and staked with a 3/8" tap used as a center punch. Up and running again without any more problems returning home. GTEX and others, the stainless band clamps that I used for my exhaust Greg posted for me made header removal easy as well copper header gaskets and the use of anti-sieze compound. A CHP officer stopped by on his Beemer bike, saw my BMW shirt and and told me I must be F***N MacIvear, that made my day! Be safe and enjoy the 4th everyone.

Sounds like you could have used a beer or two.

Think I'll drink them for you.

Did you have a good 4th other than that?

Funny you should mention the home brew.

All of my supplies/equipment are still at the store, just waiting for me to present the ole master card.

Then I can take it home and start brewing.

May be a bit of a wait though. Medical bill and no insurance.

But it will happen.

Quiet 4th for me also.

A '68 Camper Special? Dude!!!!! I wouldn't want to push it home either!
It's cool that your 14 year old was there to learn from the experience.

My Dad was an elevator mechanic, a machinist before that. My oldest brother was an auto mechanic, second oldest brother was in electronics repair. After playing in the metal shop for three years I decided to be different, took vocational photography. Then, I moved out of state. Every time the car acted up I'd get anxious, pop the hood, and wonder what the old man would do.

Triumph TR7? that's how I started out working on cars, had to handle everything from brakes to tranny to water pump (in the block, under the intake), etc. After that it was a '74 highboy, rebuild engine(S), rear-ends, you name it.

The best way to get experience working on vehicles with my 14 year old is owning British, I have a 95 Discovery say no more. I stopped 11 different oil and water leaks, took 5 years to get it right 3.9 replaced with 4.6, added a preoiler system. Last motor had dry start rod rattle every morning. It's been 26K miles only problem so far a PS hose ( high pressure), this has been the longest mileage stretch. Now the ABS that's a unit bound to fail within a month, pull fuse drive without.

sierraben,
no insurance, ouch in todays high cost medical billing I know were your coming from. I have two kids, one just got his braces off, second will need braces and the wife at 53 has braces. I'm over the dollar limit and must pay the difference. My medical insurance bills over $600 a month. If you come from Mexico you'll get "free medical" and us Bast**ds must pay or not have any. The American way? Hang in there.
