I'm working on fixing the stuck window in my son's Explorer. The thing is stuck in the down position. I'm thinking it is the motor, as the motor is very warm to the touch. Pushing the button you can hear an audible click, but nothing moves. I will check the motor with 12v. I do have another question though. What is the #14 that I have circled in red on this picture. According to the manual #14 is the Window Regulator Motor Assembly. That is where the other 14 is. The thing I have circled was just hanging loose in the door, although it does have a mounting bracket that should be attached somewhere. I'm just wondering what the heck it is.
Having seen the same loose box floating around inside my door, I can give you a guess, but a guess only...I think the "regulator" term is used interchangeably with the window actuator. (your second #14)
The circled regulator is what I think controls the auto function of the window (where it goes all the way down when you push the button once). I don't have a schematic for this, but there's got to be a logic control box somewhere for this. I'm assuming this is the drivers door, since it's the only one with this function.
Yes, it was the drivers door. I thought it was strange to have 2 #14s, but what you say makes sence. Sounds like yours is just floating around in there too. I lloked around for someplace that it might fasten to, but I think it floats around by design. Funny that there is a mounting bracket on it.
Turns out it was the window motor that was bad. Tried running 12v to it and it just clicked. Checked the resistance and it was off the scale. New motor at O'Rielly's was $69.
There are 2 bolts that hold the motor. For one of them you have to drill your own access hole to get to this. That was the first time I ever had to drill an access hole to remove something.
I also have my drivers side door apart on our 94 to fix the window motor. I had it apart about a month ago and when I check everything it started working again. then it quit again the other day. After I screwed up the window motor this time I find out that it was the window switch for that window. The others work. As to the plug you have noted,(#14) on my Ex it plugs into a box mounted on the inside of the door. We have a remote lock setup and I'm guessing that it is the receiver for that. I glanced at the wiring diagram in my Haynes manual, but couldn't find it. It is late and my old eyes are tired so I may have missed it.
I'm still figuring out how to use the Ford Service CD that I got. The thing is actually the one touch module.
I've always used manuals (Chiltons, Haynes), it looks like this CD will be a powerfull little tool once I figure out where everything is. I hope there aren't not too many misslabeled things though.
So I'm confused. Is there a dangling connector inside the door that is not hooked up to anything or does the harness end by connecting into a little module of some sort.
I recently had all the door panels off of my 93 changing the speakers and I don't recall seeing anything just dangling there - but I wasn't looking for it either.
Thanks John for the enlightenment. As you said the harness connects to a module that is bolted to the door. I wondered where the "one touch" module was located. It was on the electrical schematic, but there isn't any pictures of the location. The bad thing with Haynes and the others is that they don't really go into much detail about where things are located and what they look like.
