Anyone have a clue whats goin on here? Last night I was pullin a wagon full of hay and my truck heated up a little more than normal(It was a hot night here). It was up around 208-210 and whenever i put my truck into drive or reverse it engage unless you rev it up to about 2500 and even at that it would slip. I'm guessing that my tranny fluid was just too hot? Once I unhooked the wagon and drove it around until it was back down to 190, the tranny was fine. It has always taken awhile to engage, but last night was scary.
If you're in any gear, and the trans doesn't apply power unless playing with RPMs, then you're loosing the power through the fluid, a sign of overheating or low fluid. Check to make sure your radiator is not clogged up...
My 72 winnebago had a tranny problem like that. It was because the radiator was so clogged up and in terrible shape, that it wasn't able to cool the transmission fluid in the tranny cooler below it. The tranny fluid runs through the bottom of the radiator on this model.
We do also have a transmission forum if you find that you need help with the trans.
I checked my fluid and a month ago or so and I disconnected the lines from my rad and the aux tranny cooler and blew everything out. It always takes a few seconds to engage into any forward gear, but it just gets worse as it heats up. Wonder if I have a sticky valve body? Maybe I'll go to the tranny forum.
