headlight flicker '65
Hi,
Just joined in after lurking for a while. I've got a '65 short box f100,352, 3 on the tree, white over turquoise....nice ride with just a couple of problems.
The first one I'd like to take care of is the headlights. The low beams work fine and the highs will work for a bit and then will dim and brighten and then flicker on and off. I checked the dimmer and the wiring all looks good, the switches don't get hot and grounds from the block to chassis and frame are good. The truck does have halogen lights and I think I read a post that said that could be a problem. Any suggestions ? Thanks.

The most common cause is the headlight switch, there is a circuit breaker that wears out and causes the lights to cycle on and off. I have run halogen lights in my '66 for many years without a problem.

Hey Hoof,
Putt is right about the cause. There is an upgrade you can do that is inexpensive that eliminates the flicker and also makes your lights shine brighter. You can add relays to your head lights. There is a technical article with all the How tos in the tech pages...take a look at it and see what you think.
