Probablly because of the size. I think to fit the boxes they need to be group 65. If they will fit in the battery boxes they will work. No, I have never ran the gell type batteries but a lot of people have and love them.
Joe
I work for a major auto parts company and i must say we sell alot of these but im not to impressed with them. They have almost the highest fail rate in all the batteries we carry.I personally will never buy one.
all batteries have more CCA than oem and most are prorated for 60-84 months depending on how much you wanna dish out.
plan on around $100 a piece for good ones.
Yeah, it's awful hard to beat the cca's on the aftermarket Group 65 batteries. More battery for much less money.
Kinda hard to beat that deal.
Unless you are putting batteries in at weird positions or drive your truck upside down, there's really not any advantage when compared to a group 65 battery.
You can get some very good Exide Nascar selects for right around $50 a battery at Sam's club and with plenty of warranty to boot.

Well, I have been using the Optimas for years now. I just pulled the two out of my twin turbo Lincoln and popped them in my rig. These bats are great to me. They stay clean, no corrosion, never had a problem. I will be putting two more back in the car when she's back on the road. Had Optimas in my turbo Maxima as well. I will be hard pressed to go back to the traditional style battery. Just my $.02
those are the batteries i got after sinking my truck buddy owns a stereo shop info he gave me was they have more cca's then regular batteries and more of a standby haven't put them on yet let you guys know when i do

Yep. I was one of those consumers.
Rather than re-type my experience again in this thread, you can read about it HERE.
After 3 years in HD use in Fire response vehicles, I requested our mechanics remove them from the fleet. If the vehicle is driven daily, they are fine...if they sit for 3-5 days, the cells eventually go bad requiring a battery replacement.
I run them in my Jeep because the gel cell can take the beating around, and they won't be messy if the battery breaks or if I roll it hard. However, I wouldn't spend the $$ to put them in my truck. I've found that the Red Top starting batteries don't handle a couple of deep discharges very well, and will fail early or have diminished capacity. I like running the deep cycle (Yellow Top), since they can handle numerous deep discharges (dead battery) without damage, so they can last much longer. They have nearly the same CCA's as the Red Top, but more reserve capacity, and work very well for a starting battery. Personally, I run the Blue Top deep cycle, which is the same as the Yellow Top but with additional screw terminals which makes it easier to hook up accessories like my winch, compressor, and amp. Blue Tops are for marine use, and come in both starting and deep cycle, and are exactly the same as the Red or Yellow Tops, just with the extra terminals.
the reason i was going with the optimas was because of the jumping around and that they are seald and won't mind being in the water for awhile and my truck is a daily driver i learned about them not liking being left alone for awhile and touchof grey i took my truck over to the ymca for swimming lessons it's coming back with a 12 inch lift and some 40 inch ground hawgs

Good deal my friend! .....Send me a pic when she comes back from the "Y".....I almost feel like a Godfather. LOL
I had an optima in my dodge that I just sold. It was 5 years old and I never had one problem with it. It started up no matter how cold or how hot it was outside.
