For those who have converted their effie to EFI; where did you position computer so as not to interfere with wiper motor or other under dash equipment. I will be installing 90 Crown Vic CPU in my 50, can it sit horizontally ?

Hello I have a 55' with a 88' Crown Vic 5.0 and AOD. My computer(ECU) lays flat vertically against the firewall. I would think the only horizontal position is going to the be the floor??

I'm running a '92 Lincoln LSC motor in my '53 and my computer is mounted against the firewall on the left side of the steering column with the connector facing down.

I made a mounting plate out of a piece of carbon fiber and all of my relays, fuses, and computer are mounted to it. I just bolt the mounting plate to the firewall and all my electrical stuff stays together.

Did you both just run the wiring harness through the original hole in the firewall, and not by cutting rectangular hole in firewall ?

I actually reworked the harness so that all of my wiring goes through a single round grommet in the center of the firewall. I cut the rectangular grommet off because I wanted to run more wires through the firewall but didn't want to drill more holes.

 

Is that where the factory location of the computer was on these cars? I have a '91 Crown Vic that I plan on using as a donor, but haven't torn into it at all yet. How do these setup you guys have described appear under the hood? I want to shoot for ultra clean... Will I have to modify my harness much? I've even thought of trying to take the harness in low in the engine compartment to keep harness visibility to a minimum. Am I way off base in my thinking?

Keeping the engine compartment clean was my #1 priority. I had to do a fair amount of work to get all the wires to enter the engine compartment in a central location. The ford computer is typically in the passenger kick panel/floor board area in most of their cars and the sensors and widgits are located all over the engine compartment. My harness goes through the firewall in the most horizontal portion of the bump in the middle (if that makes any sense). I also wanted it low but that meant that the harness would have been under the carpet under your feet which didn't make me feel too comfortable. It's at a level right now where you can't see it if your in the seating possition but if you bend down you can see it.

The only wires that caused problems were for the mass air meter. I've got the mass air sensor mounted to my passenger inner fender so I ran the wires across the inside of the firewall, down through the front cab corner, up through the inside of the fender and through a grommet directly under the mass air meter. It was a lot of wire and a lot of work but it looks really clean. I'll post some pics as soon as I get them out of my camera.

the 90 Crown Vic had the computer mounted high up on kick panel driver side , tucked up high under dash; the rectangular harness mounted through firewall at about 13" from center line. I will go for clean look as well, was thinking of fabbing some sort of wireway on firewall to conceal harness.
