Most people usually report power increase with more miles.
I did notice a change the first time they got their hands on my truck, they reflashed it, but mileage got better, as did power. I suspect if they do any tune, it's to 'upgrade' from break in. Although I can't find documentation on that, just the word of a couple Ford techs, of the record stuff so... YMMV.

My 04 4X4 wity 5.4 & 3.73 ran pretty good new but better after a few thousand miles but the mileage seemed to drop off. I had a reflash done around 5,500 miles and unhooked the battery so it could relearn my driving habits and after the first tank, I have more power and better mileage. My last tank was just over 17 with 2/3 interstate and 1/3 town driving. The prior tank was 15.6 at about 50/50 highway/city. AC running the whole time.
Yeah, I was thinking that too. Heavy truck lower gears, lots of engine.
Osbornk must be pretty careful on the throttle, or he really did catch the up side on the gas game with these trucks.
I've been practicing with my recently bought used Town Car with all the computer readouts (it's a sick person who buys a Town Car with gas at $1.86+ per gallon at the time of purchase who calculates how many years they can drive it before the additional expense of gas equals the additional money the same year Toyota V6 Camry costs-there's only 2 MPG difference per the EPA). You can reset the controls and see exactly what effect your driving has on the fuel mileage. It has made a considerable difference in how I drive. Also, my truck is a short bed XLT and the lightest 4X4 combination I could get and I keep plenty of air in the tires. I only got 13-14 in cold weather and doing little interstate highway driving.
I sure second that, I got the Scangauge because the last four or five of my prior cars had the instant mileage feature, and I used it a lot.
I really missed it on this truck, and I bought the Scan the week they became avalable for the new system.
Sure does make a difference.
Chris
what kind of scan gauge do you have? can you provide a link? i'm interesting in getting one to monitor mpg etc... didn't see it or recognize it in your gallery..also, where did you mount it?
nevermind, i searched and found a pic of your setup..... i googled around and this company says they will be making one for Ford soon.... the ones they make for GM looks COOL .... it displays 2 stat at a time... 20+ stats avail...
Pretty thing, I read the site, no trip info, no instant mpg, the two things I use it for.
Price is kind high, as you would also need to add a mount system. Still might be worth it, if they add the stuff I use.
Chris
The display is updated up to 20 times per second, ensuring that
you will not miss any important data. A menu screen is available that enables
you to record data, replay the recorded data, view any stored trouble codes,
clear these codes, invert the display colors, or return to the normal real time
scan function.
but i didn't see trip info noted.... but it does look like the MPG might be one of the stats updates 20x per second.....i dunno....
they look sweet though.....
they emailed me back and said that the Ford product is about a month out... but if our trucks use the new CAN diagnotic protocol, which they do, then it will be "a while" longer... oh well....
Well, untill some outfit wises up, and makes a trip/instant mileage/etc. cool looking reader, I am just going to do like in the other post, and paint mine up crinkle gray, or black.
